Are you just swapping to the 01 ecu? It may be best to go to a junkyard.

dont buy one from the dealer...get a junkyard one, check www.car-part.com [car-part.com] and buy the cheapest one they have usually around 150 or so for the ecu, get the knock sensor from the dealer...heres a list

2000 or 2001 ECM (89666-20081, 89666-20080, or 89666-20082)
2000 or 2001 Knock Sensor 89615-12090

if you dont have any gasket sealer buy some you dont have to replace the intake manifold gasket

check Newcelica.org they have a great write up on how to do the swap with pics and everything done by Griffin! Its what I used.

You may want to concider buying a apexi power FC 900 instead of a toyota ecu and get it dyno tuned and have lift changed to around 5600 rpms(8400 redline). I wish I would have thought of this before I did the swap since some of the cars have been dyno tuned to a 10 hp gain.

total cost around 350-400 for 00-01 ecu and knock sensor

power fc and tuning 1000-1100, but gain about 10 hp with lower lift and higher redline. or spend about 600 more for 10 hp and if you go turbo you'll already have the power FC which will lower the overal cost.

another thing, does the 00 ecu allow you to hit lift in 6th by any chance? I hate running out of egine cause of the governor in 6th?????

weird??? with my 02 ecu I could shift fast enough from 5th to 6th and land in lift, however right at 6K rpms there is only about 120-130 whp, its around 6500 rpms where you get close to the 170 wph mark, so shifting from 5th to 6th needs to land at around 6500 rpms if you want to continue moving forward, otherwise there isn't enough torque/hp to move the car forward and your speed starts to drop. Its not because of a govenor, there isn't one on the celica as far as I know.

I haven't done a top speed run with the new limiter, but I can take 5th to close to 145 with the new rev limit, and before it was around 130 ish with the 02 ecu.

as far as any other benefits there are none, landing in lift is the key to a fast time.

only other thing I can think of is being able to wind out all the gears farther, 2nd gear you can now go to 60-61 mph
3rd 88-89 mph, 4th 109-110 mph- 5th 145-146 mph.

as for me it dropped about 2 tenths off my 1/8 mile times and added around 1-1.5 mph in my trap with only difference being my ecu swap.

The ECU on celcias does limit you from lift in 6th. Top speed is 140-138... That is a huge problem in our cars. I was just hoping that the 00 would not have that handi-cap. It isnt lack of power to hit lift in 6. cause i have had huge down hill drags and cant hit it..just stays right at 6,100...

weird?

I've done like 3 top speed runs with my celica before the 00 ecu swap, and shifting at 7800 in 5th to land at 6200 in 6th I could still hear lift on. although my rpms would begin to drop due to not enough power at 6200 rpms to overcome the force of drag at 140 mph.

all the magazines I've read said nothing about a govenor.

where did you get your info that the celica has a govenor? mine never did, it just didn't have enough power to carry it up the rpms in 6th.

if your really worried about it then get the power FC from trial (instead of the toyota ecu)that definately wont have any type of govenor.

I have tried many times and even when i had factory wheels on it wouldnt. My car gets up to redline fifth with no problem, then wont bang lift in 6th. Just sits at 6200 rpms no lift...i should putmy car on blocks and try it. safe;ly of course... i have had plenty of freewat ahead of me and i cant hit lift in 6th.. not shifting problems or a week motor... ecu or gov. prob.
