3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. (normally, 3 months comes first)

This begs another question...I just giot my pre-owned 02 GTS - how do I know if the previous owner's been using synthetic in the vehicle since it was new, as I want to be consistent with what broke the Celi in.

You can just switch to synthetic. You shouldn't have any problem. On high mile engine, it might burn some oil for the first few oil changes.

Synthetic is not some miracle drug, its just oil. You can use it anytime, mix it, before, after & during.

Synthetic is not some miracle drug, its just oil. You can use it anytime, mix it, before, after & during. Yup, I've used synthetic on two preivous cars, which I bought new. On one, I switched to synthetic after it had 60K-80K miles; on the second, I switched to synthetic after the break-in period. Doing the same with the Celica now. Neither of those first two cars ever used oil; the last had 175K miles when I sold it.

Use of synthetic doesn't really seem to matter in terms of engine longevity then...? correct-o?

I have used synthetic since I did the 2nd oil change. Never had any problems. It is starting to burn a little more oil now..it has 86k on it.

Its best to use synthetic, especially if you do a lot of short distance driving and the car doesn't get to operate at its optimum heat level for a while to burn out a lot of the deposits that build up in the oil. If you drive a lot of long distances then as long as you change your oil regularly, every 3-4 thousand miles, then you could just run a good grade of regular oil and the car well be able to burn of most of the deposits. You can switch between oils anytime, because they have full syn and syn blend so you should be able to mix them, just make sure they are of the same weight. Since most of us are "spirited" drivers it's best to keep with synthetic as its better for our driving conditions

I've heard its best to use synthetic only after about 30,000 miles...by then your valve-seals are broken in correctly...I use mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30, and I drive the hell out of my car...90 mph everyday...but most of my miles are done on the highway...I very rarely have to sit in traffic

i use synth back to back and i use non synth every 3rd time. I do this because synthetic oil doesn't pick up all of the deposits that normal oil would. This is fact I have taken many IT (Industrial Tech - AST classes) and all of my professors suggest this method.
