I bought my celly a week back. I love it. It suppose to be a gts butit only got 5 gears. I has lift at approx 6300 rpm and rear disc brakes but only 5 gears. Is it possible one of the former owners blow the tranny and put a gt tranny in???

could be a '03 GTS, because those are 5-speed's...not 6 like the rest of the GTS'.

What does it say on your engine, VVT-i or VVTL-i?
or
Its a GT with a brake upgrade?
6400rpm is max hp for a GT, I think thats what you got.

Its has a ingen dress up kit installed so I can't tell. The vin number comes up as a gts. I can hear the lift change so it is not just peak horse power. It sounds great. I am not pissed I am just confused. Where can i find the part number on the tranny so i can do a little more research on this??? Also, what is the red line for a gts????

um... i have the 03 gts and it is a 6 speed not a 5, the way to tell if ur car is a GTS is if it has VVTL-i engine

the redline on the GTS is 7800, the engine looks different than the GT

Answer me this:
Where is your reverse located on the shifter...Do you have to go up and left from 1st or is it Down all the way to teh right below 5th?

If it had a Injen Dress up kit then it should be a GTS becaue Injen does not make a kit for the GT

when i hit about 6300rpm it pulls like a bat out of hell till redline which is about 8000 and change.  It was just wierd that when i was looking for 6th gear i couldn't find it. My reverse in right below 5th.

I put my car on a lift and i noticed that the under body plastic under the engine was cut so i am guess the tranny was replace but why a 5 speed ...i don't know

maybe for longer or shorter gears not sure which way it goes but that could be a reason but still werd!

I'll post some pics. I got it for 11K with 60k on it. I think that is a deal even with 1 missing gear.

Tont already answered your question... If it had a Injen Dress up kit then it should be a GTS because Injen does not make a kit for the GT Another few ways to tell... is your exhaust tip curved/oval or flat/round? (curved is GTS) tach on a GTS is 9k RPM... GT is only 8k RPM speedo on a GTS is 160mph... gt is only 140mph rear brakes on GTS ar disk... gt has drum engine on gts displays metal vaulves... gt displays plastic covers gts comes with leather seating... gt is cloth seating gts has side air bags on the seats... gt does not gts comes standard with sunroof and power windows there are several other ways to tell the difference, but after just looking at the above listing of obvious visual features, you will know exactly what you got.

1) I roll in a gts, and it doesn't have the side air bags. it was an option, not standard equipment in 2002.
2) Dude, check your intake manifold (the do-whacky that's bolted to the head on the front side of the motor that goes to your throttle body/i?take tube/air filter box) if it's made out of silver metal, you've got a VVTL-i motor. if it's made out of black plastic, it's a VVT-i (no lift)
3) check the side of the cylinder head, on the passenger side of the engine bay, if the "YAMAHA" logo is stamped on there, you have VVTL-i, if not, you don't.
4) stock exhaust on the gts has a resonator canister welded up just before the exhaust tip. the gt has only tubing up to the tip (btw, gts also has an oval weld-over tip, not a round one)
Your car may just be a GT with a VVTL-I swap. I hope you have success with your new ride.

OK this is simple ... just take your car to the closest Toyota Dealer or back were you brought it from. Ask them exactly what did you buy, a GT or GTS. Depending on their answer then ask them what is the configuration of the car or Tell them your concerns about the car and see what they say. I believe all your questions have been answered to the best of everyone's ability. It's up to you now, since you own the car. Topic Closed
