I'm arguing with my little brother (he's starting to learn more about cars...) about the fact that there are certain amounts of oil you need to put in your car when you change the oil...and not to just dump the whole 5 quart jug of mobil 1 into the engine when you do it...I was just wondering how much oil everyone puts in their celicas when they change their oil...I have the recommendation next to my oil jug at home...but I'm at work...what is the recommended amount of oil for our cars...I think its like 4 quarts or something...

it depends on how much oil you drain out. people have different way to jack the car, and everytime may be a little different. use the oil meter to measure it. Standard way to measuer it is start the engine for two minutes, shutdown, wait for one minute.

This is for people that are replacing there old oil filter with a new oil filter.

Before you drain your oil, open your hood and make sure you take off the oil cap from your engine. By doing that, you'll get a very clean and fast drain.

The "GTS" takes 4.5 quarts of oil. The "GT" takes 3.9 quarts but 4 is safe to use.

rolleyes Oil is oil people, Mobil works just as good as Valvoline and vice versa.

Use whatever "brand" oil you want! It's your personal preference. I use Valvoline 5W-30, nothing more, nothing less.

Also, be warned!! People that consistently put too much oil in there car can significantly damage there engine. Overfill = DAMAGE. Try to keep it as close to spec as possible.

I usually change my oil every 2,000 miles. Just to be on the safe side from engine wear. I'm also an aggressive driver. Regardless of what kind of driver you are, you shoud always change it every 3,000 miles.

And remember, don't abuse your milage count. Be consistent and change it when time comes. thumbsup

yes, too much oil does put excess pressure on your valve seals...
