Once it has a salvage tittle, isn't it illegal to put it back on the road?

technically yes, until you have whatever damage is done fixed back to some sort of standards or specs...it has to be inspected to give it a restored salvage title...then you can legally drive it...

well it is illegal to drive a salvage title car but once you fix it up you take it to the nearest salvage inspection but first you have to schedule appoointment which is a pain in the ass because its like 2 months wait and i had to reschedule because i found out a needed a new engine. wel i bought my car with about 49k miles and it was hit in front not to hard frame had to be pulled about an inch to the right which wasnt big deal i had to replace bumper, bumper cover, used same fenders just a little fix up , then radiator , fans, Intake , windshield, air bags/seat belts, one headlight. you can add up how much i paid, some parts i got free some most other parts were very cheap because i have hook ups from friends and also get discount at dealers. My car wouldnt start so took it apart found out it had big problems , block was scrathed up pistons timing belt on wrong etc prob some newbies were messin with it after they over revved it because when i took pistons out the rings wouldnt wana budge because they were pretty much welded inside from al the heat. so i bought an Matrix XRS engine with 24k miles for about 1.5k and my air bags with seatbelts cot me 700$.

^^ how much did you have to pay to get your new engine installed?

curious because i just recently blew my engine and they're asking 5k for a brand new engine installed--looking around for a cheaper price.

if you can help me out it would be appreciated.

and congrats on your find...your total price looks like it was much more than 2.5k but at the same time it came out to be much less than what you would pay for a non-salvage car.

well i have a gts. and the reason it's so much for a brand new engine is they say the celica is too new to have a complete engine boxed & ready to go...toyota sells all the parts separately.

thanks for the tip about junkyards..that came to my mind but i havn't researched it yet.

and as far as how i blew my engine--i don't know. i was at some really high rpm's but nothing that i havnt done a million times before. my car is under warranty but toyota said they weren't going to cover it because they said it was driver error...the mechanic is saying i downshifted near redline which isn't true. i thought the ecu was supposed to tell you everything about what gear you are in and at what redline you are traveling...it's just ridiculous.

in any case...they say the 'toyota certified warranty' is a whole separate division of toyota and that they'd have to send someone out to see if it was really under warranty or not--and they said it was 'almost definately' not going to be covered. but to get toyota certified to come out, they first need to take apart the whole engine ($1,500). and that's fine..if it is indeed a malfunction then i'll get my money back..but if not then i just blew $1,500 because the torn engine does me absoultely no good and it's still going to be a little over 5k to put a new one in...the 1500 doesnt count towards it.

its just very aggrivating..i'm looking into a few things but nothing has satisfied me yet.

Its covered by warrantee unless they prove otherwise. If they want to tear the motor apart, they do it on their time. Start by making contact with the Better Business Bureau & go from there.

^^ yeah, but i just don't know. like it WAS at high rpm's (redline) but i did not downshift from there...all my shifts were upshifts.

and i would have them tear the engine apart except i'm scared of losing $1,500 for nothing...but i guess thats why they do that..so toyota can get away without honoring their warranty. it's just a very aggrivating situation. i'm looking at having my car holed up for at least 6 months and i'm not happy about it at all.

Now if you take that salvage title and run it through west virginia you can get a clean title. Its an old scam but it works. Always make sure your cars dont come from west virginia.
