WHAT!!! The 1978 "cobra" had 92 hp. It was one of the most laughable american cars ever made. Last fast Mustang was 1973. Then emissions emasculated them. The 60's, early 70's were fast.

Mustangs were never fast unless you modded them. Ford sold them as look good cars when they made it. the gtos camaro/trans ams chargers all went faster. Ford sold it based on looks and price just like today. It worked out to be a good proposition. And if you notice whatever ford makes gm makes a faster model of. The corvette beats the cobra and the new gto is getting more hp to beat the mustang.

I just got done "building my ford" on the site. Pretty much fully loaded for about 29000. Not a bad price. They also had some pretty color paint colors.

Not true. I had a 64.5 mustang with a 289 Hi-Po and a 4-speed, factory dual exh and it was fast. When it first came out the car mags criticized Ford for the looks of the car. It was about performance, and being inexpensive, not so much looks. I roasted tons of cars. It was stock. I had a 1970 Longnose with 351 Cleveland, 4 speed and it was fast. All domestic cars had there quicker and slower versions including the Mustang. I was always more of a GM guy, but you learned real quick which versions of different models had the balls. That all started ending in 73 and 74 when they all got emission controlled into being slow. Big Blocks got rare, and even bigger V8's got anemic. And Corvettes and Cobras are in a different class. The mustangs competition was the Camaro and Trans-Am which GM killed and tried to replace with the very ugly and also slow SSR. GM needs to replace that niche, but thats a different topic. Theres nothing wrong with not liking any specific car, if you don't like it-you don't like it, but fast is still fast.
I love my Celica, but I can see someday owning a Celica AND a mustang. sorry for the long post!
