what brand/model is it?

newer video cameras have a firewire (its called i.link on sony cameras) port to link it to the computer. You will get digital output and 1:1 backup if you use firewire method.

if you don't have firewire you can get a analog video capture device. Here are some http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1428. Picture quality is lost a bit but it gets the job done.

if you have a s-video out on your camera and your graphics card supports you will be fine, what you need is windows movie maker or some other editing program, these will help you capture and work with your recorded data. I'm a video major so if you have any other questions ask away

It's an older Sony HandyCam. It records on to a Hi8 tape. I would need to get an analog video capture device like you stated above. But, since I have a graphics card that supports S-video, I should be able to capture it through Windows Movie Maker like sickcelica696 said. I'll give it a try and let you guys know... Thanks again thumbsup

Well, I connected the S-video cable from the video camera to the S-video port on the graphics card. Rebooted, started Windows Movie Maker and I can't get my recorded video.

Did I miss something?
