I bought my 2002 celica used from a toyota dealership. I've had it for about a year and have noticed a squeak shifting from 1st to 2nd, no its starting to get to me and worry. Can anyone "HELP" and tell me wat the shit is and if its under warranty?

Yea, I will have to do that fix also, it is starting to annoy me. Will it break anything if I do not rush and fix it ASAP?

If it's a squeak then it's probably the shift linkage. I took mine into the dealer for the same problem and they just greased it up. Even though I told them it was the shift linkage it took them 3 hours to figure it out on their own, but at least it was under warranty so it didn't cost anything.

so its a sqeak? because metal on metal would make a grinding sound. if its a sqeak try using lithium grease on your linkage.

It's not the metal on metal, but rather the little clips that hold the linkage together that squeak.

Buy white lithium grease from the store for like $2.

Pop the hood and have someone keep shifting (with the car off) from first to second while you look for the moving linkage, and pinpoint the source of the squeak.

Spray it while its moving, and the squeak should be gone.

I did this around 8 months ago, and had to respray it recently since it came back. It won't last forever, so hold onto that can of spray.

Or if it's still under warranty you can get it done free at Toyota. I wasn't sure what to do to grease it up, so that's why I took it in, but if you wanna spend a few bucks and know what to do then you can save some time by not going to the dealer.

Since I took it to the dealer, I'm not sure where to grease it up. I have lithium grease, but it's not the spray. Do you have to go under the car and take off the plastic underneath? Can someone tell me how I can find it so I can grease it up? I took mine in a couple months ago and now it's squeaking again already.

Where do you spray? Is it inside the car underneath the shift boot or is it underneath in the engine bay. If it's in the engine bay, which plastic's do I need to remove? Driver's or passenger side plastic? Thanks.
