My girlfriends brother has a 98 toyota camery. He is the type of person that will take it to the professionals for anything and I am the type to DO Everything Myself. Well, I took it upon myself to flush his coolant and things didn't go so good. I did everything as they are sappose to be done but when I start the car, it idle's super bad and sometimes it cuts off. ITS STEAMING RIGHT NOW AS I SPEAK. HELP!!!!! He's not home yet.

This is the coolant I used... Not toyota brand but I thought it would work. Would this happen if I use too much of this?

Well, too much will cause the radiator cap to pop off the extra pressure in the radiator. When it's idling rough it shouldn't be from changing the coolant unless you bumped, disconnected or hit something you didn't know about. Double check everything, make sure the radiator cap is on properly. If it's not on right, it will run like ass and leak and overheat. Using that coolant shouldn't cause a problem. I don't know if our cars use "DEX-COOL" it's a slightly different antifreeze than the regular stuff. Oh yeah, did you use a 50/50 percent solution, not just straight antifreeze???!!!

the steam might be from spilled liquid on the top of the radiator... just let it run for like 5 minutes with the hood poped and see if it all evaporates...
when you poured the coolent in, how green (if it was green) was it? really dark? then you didnt do the 50 50 mix...
if you didnt, then drain, what you think 50% is out, and fill up the rest with water...(that kinda that has no minerals...umm i can remember the name right now) starts with a "D" i think)
Fill up the rest with that water, and run it again, listen to the engine, and make sure you didnt unplug anything else...

how in the hell do you mess up changing the coolant Did you accidentally unplug the fan wires? do the cooling fans kick on? Perhaps you have the worst luck in the world and it was coincidence that the thermostat froze? dunno dude. you're prolly screwed

Woah Woah Woah...was the factory coolant green? Or red? If it was red...kiss your ass goodbye. When you put the red mixed with the green it turns into this "sludge stuff." So good luck.

You shouldn't have done it if you don't know what you're doing. Thats a good way to fuck up his engine. Its always 50/50, unless it says on the bottle that its premixed.

sounds like it was a preexisting condition that you may not have known about before you did it. 'cause coolant to my knowledge shouldn't effect the iddling at all. but as far as it goes with the steam, it is probablly just excess coolant or water somewhere. good luck !

I can help... Is there any of the coolant you used left in the bottle? If there is skip ahead. If not, purchase another bottle. Pour it into a glass and drink as fast as you can. That shit will fuck you up REAL bad but it might be better than the alternative. Cheers

drain all the coolant out that's in there (I hope to God you didn't mix Preston with Toyota ) Go buy some Toyota coolant, mix it 50/50 with distilled water, and add it back the radiator using the steps that you should know. If you don't know them, pay your friend to take it someplace where they don't have idiots.

wow...you probably cost him a $3,000 engine when all he had to do was trust his better instinct and pay the $90 at a normal place and have it flushed...and then if something went wrong he could have sued THEM...post how things went...

its too late he has been "taken care of" Yea the guy prolly smoked em last night and made him worm food you know what the trick is? Starve a pig long enough and they will eat most anything. Pigs. Yes Live pigs. They can dispose of a body in minutes. They can chew through bone like butter and leave no evidence. Oh and if anyones curious if I take sugar in my tea the answer is ..."no, Im sweet enough"

IF he always takes his to the shop to do everything then why would you try to do it yourself for him. you might want to check your theromostats and water pumps too, but I think your just screwed for messing with something that you shouldn't have, you should have just let him pay to get it done like always.
