i got a friend who has had bad luck with cars since he got his license a couple years ago, sad to say, but hes already gone through 5 cars in 4 years, 2 of those being totalled. hes got his act together now and is looking to buy a car under 6,000 dollars for a daily driver that he can also mod everyonce in a while. so putting everything aside do you guys think a 6th gen is a reliable car that he could buy and mod? he loves the way e-celica has car meets and everyone helps eachother out when we have questions, so he looking at celicas, or do you guys think a little civic a better way to go for him?...and i dont know why but he loves the del slo... confused..i dont really know much about imports other than the new ones, so any info is welcome thumbsup

I would recommend getting a 1st gen talon TSI.
There cheap and easy to mod.

If he only has 6k I would go with something cheap and easy. It sounds like he might have an insuranse problem so I would not go with a Turbo Talon or Eclipse. I wouldn't go with a Celica, Integra or Civic. But is insuranse isn't too bad I would get a Honda or older Integra. The B18a1 is a good start. It works well with bolt on and insurance isn't going to be as bad as a GSR or turbo car. Look around and maybe you can find a well done Honda swap. A civic CRX or hatchback with a b16/b18c swap is great. Insurance companies won't charge you a lot because to them it is just a regular non-vtec communter car.

if i were u, you wouldnt let him buy a fast car since hes been through a lot of shit. yea you gotta love speed, but you gotta give it up sometime. i would go with a 4 door civic, or else 2 door. why? coupe civics are usually known to be modded, so if a car rolls by u, hes gonna rev at you and you gonna race. if he still wants a little power no matter wut, then get a civic cz their parts are cheap, a lot of aftermarket parts, good parts response, reliable, and all the rest that comes with a honda.

Public transit. Sounds to me like he shouldn't be driving at all. It's fine if he only hurts himself, but there can also be innocent bystanders.

lol..i know what you mean, but hes never hurt anyone and either way hes gonna get back on the road...and actually hes always buying lemons, and the only accident hes caused (himself being the only one in the car and only person getting hurt) was his last car..an 03 lancer oz. but his insurance is through the roof because of that one, thats why hes gettn a cheaper car he can pay all at once and not have to have full coverage...and ive told him his modding days are over ( at least for a couple years) but hes a hard head, and i just basically want to see whats reliable and cheap for him thumbsup

I used to have a 1997 Saturn SC2 it was a good little car, If he can find one for that price I'd go with a 3000GT

The absolute best car you can get for under 6k is a MR2 turbo or a Celica All-Trac(VERY,VERY,VERY hard to find) these two cars can easily beat many cars out there and with good driving you should run low to mid 14's on the 1/4mile. Other then that you could a 1st gen DSM turbo, gotta have turbo or its useless. Civic Swap is nice, 3000GT is worthless unless its turbo and hard to find, 300Z and RX7 turbo if you don't mind fixing some "light front end damage".

Riced up Civic the way to go!!!! wink

Actually, these guys have em right. A 1st gen talon is good.

actually he didnt keep his license, hes barely getting it back at the end of this month, and when i mean mod, of course he will probably put an intake, exauhst, and maybe even headers, but hes gonna mostly stick with "looks" as his main mod. but really to start off with he just need something that wont break down every weekend. spineyes

I had a Saturn coupe also. It was a great car. He could get one of those. Good performance, handling, and looks (97-00) and they are cheap and reliable-what more could you ask for out of a 6K car?

get a 1995 GSR because those things are quick too or get a 2.5RS those are pretty quick with bolts on and its 4wheel drive.

here some other good cars too
1997 Eclipse GS-T
1997 Civic Coupe and get it swapped or something
mr2 turbo
6th generation celica those dont look bad
and Integra LS and get a turbo with that

The S13-s14 silvias aren't a bad idea, especially since drifting is now getting quite popular and more stuff is coming out for them, it'll probably just take some time getting the swap done as its more difficult then a Honda swap. If you get an MR2, you should try to get a 97 rear clip from Japan, that way you have everything you need and some spare parts.

2.5 RS is useless unless you do a STI swap.
