Some people say that the more well-known companies like AEM and Injen are the best but some of them may give you bogging problems. The only intake that has no CEL problems is the TPR.

Either AEM or INJEN are popular choices. Have you ruled out the possibility of a Short Ram? With the heat shield you aren't THAT far behind the gains from a CAI I guess.

TPR has no reliability problems like all of the other intakes (CELs and bogging), and can convert from a CAI to an SRI in minutes. It's also cheaper than the name brands at $180. thumbsup

Does nobody rate K&N typhoon kits? I have difficulty finding anywhere in the UK that does TPR, and AEM and Injen are expensive to get over here but many places sell K&N kits..

TPR has the mid range power of Injen with the low end power of AEM. Its the best of both worlds.

Anyone know where I can get one? wave

When you step on the gas and the car kinda just sits there for a second or more. Most noticeable when the car is cold. It also comes on in midrange around 5K on some cars. It's caused by the engine running too lean, which saps away power. If the engine goes any leaner, it causes a CEL because it's not safe to run that lean (raises engine temps to unsafe levels).

TPR solved the bogging and CEL problems by adding fins to MAFS section of the CAI, resulting in 100% accurate airflow readings, so the engine will never run dangerously lean like with other intakes.

I know someone on that "other" Celica site got it and had an instant lean CEL that wouldn't go away with K&N. It's basically just an AEM intake. The design is incredibly similar. As for finding a TPR intake in the UK, you won't. wink TPR is a brand new company started a few months ago by Easy_C. He ships worldwide, but you can only buy the intakes in group buys right now, till his company has enough money to make intakes in advance. They're definitely the best intakes out there on every level. Solid stainless steel construction, adjustable mounting bracket, top notch K&N filter with built-in venturi system and the largest filtering area, and a cast MAFS section with MAFS fins (key to no problems) for 100% accurate construction (other brands hand weld or machine weld the MAFS mount to the pipe).

Only place to get it is from Easy_C. Give him a PM with what color you want (powdercoated red, blue, silver/aluminum, or polished) and your address. They'll be on sale again most likely by the end of the month.

None of them void any warranties unless you hydrolock with them, or it comes with a crappy filter that either does a poor job of filtering (trashing the inside of your engine), or falls apart and gets sucked into the engine. wink In short, you have nothing to worry about. smile

True, but the law is behind you. There's a law that states the dealer needs to prove the part caused the failure. Without that proof, they can't legally deny you warranty work.

Intake brands on based on a personal preferance! I chose INJEN CAI because i was talked into it. Better for high end torque because i have a GTS. And plus i get comments about my CAI on how it sounds like my exhaust because its so damn loud when hit lift thumbsup

True, Injen did have the best top end power before, but TPR is neck and neck with it, and utterly disgraces it in low end (equal or better than AEM's low end),and beats all CAIs at lift. thumbsup TPR also has none of the reliability problems that Injen is famous for due to its unique design (the above mentioned CELs and bogging). Here's a comparison dyno:

one question, is it possible to switch to TPR intake while i got an Injen CAI already? if so, is it hard?

It's actually easier than installing an intake in the first place. All you'd need to do is replace the pipe and the filter. Everything else (stock airbox, excess hoses and sensors) have already been removed. That should cut installation time in half.

Nope, there's no comparison. The Injen CAI would beat it, and the TPR CAI would destroy it. grin

I've always used AEM. most of the people with the fastest times all used AEM. (which is why I bought it to begine with lol) but since my side project is going the way of the dinosaur due to many events I've put serious consideration into jumpin on the tpr bandwagon.

I also told easy_c that if he manages to hit 200 whp with I/H/E I'll turn my car into the tpr mobile lol best I've done so far is 185 with I/E and 185 I/H/E lol I havent tuned it yet for power but I cant see getting more then 1-2 hp outa the header. (same results as MWR)

I say if you're in the market it cant hurt to try it cause the dynos do show more gains and they are cheap. definitely cant hurt. worst case scenario is you make the same power as everyone else only cheaper lol thumbsup

Nope, the GT Easy_C had dynoed was hurting big time (smoke coming out of the exhaust), but it was the only one available to at dyno time. All the dynos done with it (stock, TPR, AEM) came out the same. frown It should dyno about the same as the Injen CAI, though (AEM is about the same with a totally different design). The head and intake manifold/throttle body of the GT are the bottlenecks in the intake system, so an intake can only do so much. The GTS' are much more free flowing, allowing different intake designs to alter the power curve differently. The biggest advantages of using a TPR CAI on a GT are no bogging/CELs, better construction, the ability to easily change into an SRI, and it's cheaper for the same performance. smile
