I just had a quick question about paint the engine plastic... ppl say that you should put primer on the plastic first.. but what would happen if i didnt prime the surface and just washed it and painted it? guess it wont last that long rite ????

Normally it doesn't stick well. I had a bad experience painting plastic before...i had to get primer and redo it. Certain paints that are made for plastics might fuse better with the plastic though. There's only one way to find out!

Exactly! Paint it and rub a towel over it. If it doesn't scratch off your good.

I never tried it or will. That stuff looks like cheap ricer crap to me and I'm not showing my engine bay to the world. I'm sure that I wouldn't with some Krylon painted engine plastics if I had the chance. Looks like crap in my opinion. Just like painting the dash, ricer and crap. Nothing to show off than a good paint job that I could do on my own walls of my apartment. It's embarrassing and belittles the rest of the Celica communtiy.

My friend painted his plastics with only paint, and it started bubbling and actually peeled off in sheets. I repainted them by scuffing the surface up, using plastic primer, and then applied the paint in thin layers, wetsanding in between. Last time I saw it, it was still nice and smooth and shiny like the body of the car. It's not gonna peel off anytime soon.

everyone is entitled to their own oppinion... I'm not going to knock hephaestus for his - but one thing is for sure, I will not ask him to paint the walls of my house I like to customize many things that I have... make them my own... I'm proud of the job I do and am proud to show it off and Im sure that others are happy just to paint the walls of their apartment
