well i called AEM and they basically told me to fuck off and go to toysport in gardena..LOL ![rofl rofl](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/rotf.gif) Basically i have had 4 CELs on a gen 2 AEM intake. i have made sure that all the hoses are tight..i dunno what's going on. the ecu cooling tube that connects to the radiator fan is not all th way in but it's sung. the little hose that attaches to the engine is plugged, taped, and zip tied...lol. i dunno the code. hopefully since AEM has send it's celica guys over to toysport they can help me out.

that is crazy that it is so different from car to car christian, i don't think it is your ecu cooling hose b/c i could never get that damn thing all the way into the radiator port either. and by the way, what is gonna be the difference between the current TPR and the gen2 anyone know?

well i chose aem instaed of tpr because aem has a CARB sticker.if TPR had a CARB sticker i would buy it in a second.i mean i get great performance from my AEM it's just that this CEL pops up every 2-3 days. i mean i can always reset the ecu by going in the fuse box but i wanna drive my car and not have to do that evry now and then. i am pretty confident that toysport can fix it. they have gotten numerous celis with the same problem...i hope they can though ![confused confused](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/confused.gif)

The connector piece that goes into the radiator shroud should fit in there securely if you tap on it with a hammer, but I doubt that will fix your CEL issues.
Get the code pulled, because you don't even know if it has something to do with your intake or not, so you can't blame it on the CAI.
It could as well be a busted O2 sensor or something else.

Mine didn't come with a CARB sticker, but then again it may have, and I just didn't use it since I don't live in Cali.

my experience has been with the generation 2 that the cel came on more often before I put in the TRD exhaust, after installing the TRD exhaust, the cel came on a lot less
dunno why that is, I'm just mentioning what I noticed

I have the first Gen and never had a cel at all, but i am lucky. It is a hit or miss with them due to everything is hand made thus room for error

Mmmm I'm about to buy a 2nd generation AEM CAI,but reading of you now I'm undecided...
I have an injen short ram but now I'm not sure it's a good idea to replace it with an AEM CAI. I don't want to have a CEL!!!
What would you do?

I still recommend it, best cai out on the market. Next to TPR, anyway. ![wink wink](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/wink.gif) TPR = 0 CELs, 0 bogging. ![thumbsup thumbsup](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/thumbsup.gif) Hand made? How would a slight bend in the pipe, or perhaps an improper weld trigger a CEL? The MAFS mounts were 100% hand welded, and more often than not, they weren't welded at a perfectly parallel angle to the piping. This caused the MAFS to be at the wrong angle, , making air bypass it instead of flowing up through it. This caused CELs a lot more than they would've occurred with a machine aligning the mount. Does the cel effect the car's performance in any way? Yes. The car goes into safe mode, and sets the AF ratios to rich, since the CEL is caused by the engine running lean. It's a safety measure so the engine's internals don't overheat (lean = hot, rich = cool), and it results in reduced power output.

Yup, that little stall in acceleration is your car running too lean (but not lean enough to damage the engine). It isn't present on a properly tuned intake.

Running lean = the engine isn't getting enough fuel to match the incoming air. With intakes, it's caused by a bad design, which causes the air to flow around the MAFS, giving it improper readings. MAFS readings are how the ECU knows how much air is going into the engine, and how it decides how much fuel will need to added to match it. All intakes out there are designed the same when it comes to the MAFS environment except one: TPR. TPR uses the same kind of setup as the stock airbox. There are fins sitting right before the MAFS that help direct air through it instead of around it. This maintains proper MAFS readings, which keeps the engine from running lean and bogging and causing CELs.
