Celica Forums General Discussion General Got pulled over last night by a cop.

So I went and picked up some food in town and I'm coming back. The speedlimit is 70kmh so I'm doing just under 80kmh. I'm driving with 1 hand since my other is keeping the drinks steady. I notice a cop and my radar detector goes off just as I'm passing him. But I'm under 10 over so I should be ok.

He pulls out and starts following me, so again, I keep my speed at about 8kmh over, slowing down as the speed limit changes to 60kmh. He's still following me and is getting a bit behind. I'm getting to an area where it picks up to 80kmh and as I'm getting really close he hits his lights for me to pull over.

As I'm pulling over I decided fcuk it and hit the breaks pretty good. Might have surprised him a bit since he was able to stop but was REALLY close to the back of my car. He comes over and says hi can I see your liscence.

I say why, I wasn't speeding, I was under 10 over.

He says "I didn't say you were speeding, I just want to know who I'm talking to."

So I'm like "well whatever, here it is."

Then he goes on a schpiel about how he's seen me around when he hasn't been in a cop car(since my car is REALLY noticeable being yellow), and I've been speeding etc. And mentions "oh a radar detector huh"

I said "so, they're legal" andI tell him that I usually keep it UNDER 10 over, (though in the mornings I sometimes rip it pretty good to work if I have to)

He says "yeah well maybe keep it closer to the limit, because the next time you see me in the mirror, you'll get a ticket"

He was being a bit of a jerk but not too bad. I should have gotten his badge and pressed a harassment charge. They don't say jack when I'm in my wife's minivan doing 10 over. The only thing he could ever get me on is my tinted windows so I didn't really press the issue much. It's amazing how a cop driving day to day has a built in radar system and can tell how fast I'm going.


LOL I remember when I was younger if I was caught speeding, they'd come to the window and ask how I'm doing, I'd say "fcuk you" of course I'd be getting a ticket with no "favours" as in "oh you were doing 20 over but I'll drop it to 15 over" LOL then they'd give me the ticket and say have a nice day & I'd tell them "yeah go fcuk yourself" LOL you can tell a cop to fcuk off all you want and there's nothing they can do but don't expect any favors.

I was tempted to tell him to give me a ticket for 9 over and watch the judge throw it out, but my food was getting cold. Oh well. LOL he was just pissed since he was following me and I was at 8 over, 9 over & there really wasn't shit he could do except bust my balls a bit.

What does 10 over the limit mean.

Generally, if the speed limit is 60kmh they don't get really excited until you do 15kmh over the limit. Which means NORMALLY if the speed limit is 60kmh, they give you a 10kmh over leeway. I got stopped once and I was doing 13kmh over (he says though I hadn't reached the 50kmh sign yet and was slowing down for it) So we had a little chat and he said he'd give me a break, which was cool. But this time I was under 10 over which meant he was just strutting his stuff. LOL

By 10 over he means 10 mph/kpm over the speed limit. Thats awesome man glad you got off.

if you were in l.a. you would have gotten anal probed for that. never question a police officer. they are already nervous when approching a car. plus since you're car is yellow, with a TRD kit amd rims you're not exactly flying under the radar. plus if you are over the limit you are over the limit. there is no law that says otherwise. by law he can still issue a ticket if you are 1mph over.

so in Cali, the freeway speed limit is 65, but i do around 70-80. but, here in cali, there is no leeway. they'll just give you a ticket.

apparently around my town, having a spoiler is enough to get ya pulled over... had a cop check just about every inch of my car for "illegal modification" questions like, "did you cut the springs?" "no sir, they are performance springs" and bull crap like that. nothing but a hassel, i go about 5 over allhe time, never get pulled over, it's when i go slow i get slammed

eh speeding is speeding is how i see it. if you are over the limit, you're speeding.

cops are always pricks because thats there job! And you guys with the yellow cars, of course your asking to get fucked with because yellow and red stand out. If you were to stand on top a building thats pretty high and you look down a busy street. You will notice that yellow and blue and red and green stand out..

Wow, you really ran into an asshole there. I'm not gonna say congrats for skipping the ticket. You weren't doing anything wrong. Nothing to be ashamed of. If you HAD gotten the ticket, you easily would have won in court. All in all, the celica is pretty damned flashy, especially in yellow. Just be careful.
