The oil consumption problem on 1ZZ-FE motors is caused by gummed up oil rings. The build up of half burnt oil causes the rings to stick in a contracted position inside thier ring groove on the piston. This causes them not to come in full contact with the cylinder walls, causing oil to get by them & to burn off. In fact once it starts, the problem makes it self worse.

The solution is to put a specialized solvent designed for this purpose into the oil. The solvent is supposed to disolve the crud that holds the ring in & free it up. If it works, you will be good as new.

As soon as I find out what the name of the solvent is, I will post it.

2. Pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint into oil crank case to clean rings, lifters, dirty parts and remove moisture.

3. Pour 1/3 to 1 full pint into fuel tank to clean injectors, carburetor jets, fuel lines and remove moisture.

4. Immediate Results: Smoother idle, increased R.P.M.'s better throttle response and improved performance. See label on can for detailed results for use in each area.

FUEL TANK, CARBURETOR, INJECTION and OIL CRANKCASE.

For Peak Performance, Use SEA FOAM Every 2,000 to 5,000 Miles

It's injection. Carburetors are found on much older cars.


On another note, I went looking for this stuff a while ago and couldn't find any. I'll keep looking though.

You can pour it into your PCV hose to get it into the engine, through the oil filler cap to put it into the oil system, and put it in when you get gas to put it into the fuel system.

But one more question.. How come when I take the PCV hose off, my engine can't get a start?? therefore, I put half bottle of seafoam into the injection when my engine is off, and then put everything back. Finally, start my engine. once the engine get a start, lots of smoke come out.. wtf
Is that OK? confused

I got this stuff today, I put it in my oil and gas tank. It's incredible stuff! My RPM's idle at 800 rpm like it's suppose too! Better throttle response and runs way smoother overall!

The reason the engine won't start is because it has a huge air leak with the disconnected PCV hose. This lets air in past the MAFS, and the engine can't match it with fuel since it has no clue what's going on. The best way to do it would be to have someone else start the engine and sit inside the car. Unhook the PCV hose and plug it with your thumb, having the person inside rev the engine if the revs drop while you're doing this. Then, take your thumb off and pour in some Seafoam, making sure the person inside is still revving when necessary. After that, plug up the hose again and wait a few seconds before putting more in. You want to add a little SeaFoam at a time, not all at once, so you'll go through this process a few times.

And yes, once the Seafoam gets into the engine and loosens all the buildup, it will burn, causing black smoke to come out the exhaust. Don't worry, it's a good thing. smile

On the site I posted, $7 for a bottle, $36 for a case of 6, $69 for a case of 12, and $132 for a case of 24. If you're ordering online, I'd definitely get one of the cases, since you'll save a lot of money vs buying individually when you need them. You'll most likely be using this product again in the future, anyway. smile

The stuff Toyota used wasn't sea foam. I forget the name & I will have to ask again. Basically they added it to the oil & ran the motor at 2000RPM for 15minutes, drained the oil, put in fresh & did it again, drained the oil & did an oil & filter. The rings freed up & the engine burns very little oil now. thumbsup

okay i just bought some of the seafoam at my local autozone... thumbsup 2 for $9.99

where do you use it again? gas tank? and wat else? something about PCV hose? where is that?

oh and do you need to have a full gas tank before adding the seafoam to it?

some should make a "how to" on this?

Put it in your oil and gas tank. It shows on the can the recommended amount of seafoam to use for each task performed. As far as the PCV hose, I couldn't tell ya. Someone should provide pics. thumbsup

I'm really wanna know what is the name of that product, because I just did a compression test today, and I'm sure I got the ring problem. Could you find the name of that product for me? I appreciate. smile

Oil ring issues don't show up on compression tests. I was getting between 185 & 190 over all four. The two compression rigs should hold the compression, the oil ring (3rd ring) is the one that gets stuck.

I know, I gotta ask the dealer again.

I have actual experiance with Seafome it works great smile it was kindda funny because there was so much smoke comeing out of my girlfriends car that her mom though the car was on fire it was funny. smile

I've been losing about 1 qt of oil every 1,500 miles. After putting Seafoam in my oil, I checked my oil after 2,000 miles and it's still on full. It must have free'd up the rings spineyes

"If adding oil helps the compression, it is likely that the piston rings and/or cylinder bore are worn or damages."

If you have stuck oil rings they will not effect a compression test.

If you have worn out compression rings, adding oil may improve your compression.

These two statements have nothing to do with each other

yeah tongue , is it any other produck i can use? i saw it said 100% Pure Petroleum is this the only thing in it or is it just to state that its pure petroleum in it?

Hey all! I'm a new owner of a 2001 celica with 122,xxx miles with the infamous 1zz-fe engine and am experiencing a slow amount of oil consumption. smirk I am wondering if the sea foam is the first route to take in cleaning up the rings?

Anyone have any success with the Seafoam solution? I'm going througH about a quart every 200 miles. NO bueno. And I really don't want to have to pull the engine.

To dissolve gums and vanish on piston rings and valves, try MOTOR MEDIC MOTOR FLUSH.

It's sold in WALMART for $4 a quart. I used half a quart and idled engine 10 minutes then drain oil and replace filter. It dissolved lots of gums and vanish that the other chemicals did not. The drained oil was black and thick like tar after 3 flushes.

I solved the low compression in cyl 1. All cylinders have about the same compression and engine is smooth like new.

SEAFOAM did not do anything for me but potentially can contaminate Oxygen sensors and Catalytic converter, causing SMOG problems.
