My friend just bought a 96 Prelude, he said he could beat me so bad...I know that car is fast, but I don't think I would lose that bad, anyone knows how much horse power that car has?

you'll get owned. i think USDM h22's push 190hp stock. if you had a GTS you'd stand a chance. wave

Is it an auto or manual. I drove a manual (h23) and it didnt seem that fast. My celica (gt) would be it.

Auto H23 Si motor stock with high mileage you'd probably have a chance. thumbsup

there have been a lot of threads about prelude vs. celica. ive owned both. the prelude owns celica gt. however...a celica gts would stand a chance. IMO i think the gts would lose but most here think it would beat it out.

135-hp, 2.2-liter I-4
160-hp, 2.3-liter I-4
190-hp, 2.2-liter I-4

i can say you could probably beat the 135 hp one and the 160 if he has a lot of miles, but the 190 no way. good luck race him and find out who is the winner

The 2.2 one thats pushing out 190 is the 7th generation right? If you talking about that then I think a GTS could beat it, they say the 7th gen is way too heavy for its engine.

That's the final generation (I think it's 4th). The previous generation (3rd?) had less power, but I believe it was lighter, so it's much faster. So basically 3rd gen > GTS > 4th gen. smile Both gens are very nice looking cars, and I wouldn't mind having one as a beater. grin

cool

I don't think '96 is quite the final generation, but I might be wrong. I don't think '96 had VTEC yet, and I think the final stock VTEC engine had 200 HP. Very nice car; probably about the equal of a GTS speedwise. Funny, it was the discontinuation of the Prelude (which I wanted back then, but didn't get) that led me to being so sensitive about the Celica being discontinued (hence I just went and got a Celica when I heard THEY were being discontinued).

the H22A VTEC motor is in the 97-up ludes which has 195hp i believe...the JDM version is 200hp. the generation before that...92-96 years had the 135hp version, the 160 2.3l Si engine, and the 2.2L VTEC engine with 195hp. I'd say it's a pretty good matchup...but i think you would lose because both cars are pretty light, and the ludes just have more displacement than you.

Its 200 HP and 156 torque VTECH with only 3k curb weight. I think it might be a challenge for the GTS.

Preludes are fast and can handle. I always liked them. Too bad they're gone like our Celicas. Isn't that basically a Prelude engine in the S2000?

the vtec preludes are faster than the celica gts. they have more horsepower and a lot more torque.

two of my friends have them, one 2001 the other 1999. i've beaten i/h/e integra gsr's with my stock gts but the prelude easily beat the type r's which is a whole level above the gsr.

at a dragstrip i raced the 1999 vtec prelude. he just pulled past me in second, eventhough i had the jump on him in first. my car is stock currently, he has pulleys, v2 intake, header, exhaust, shortshifter...

i've rode and drove the prelude, i think the vtec is stronger than the vvtl-i in the last generation prelude.

but hell, i think the prelude is ugly. nothing shows like the celica...

I think if the GTS is well driven and lands lift properly, it would be a close thing. VTEC 'Ludes are definitely something to respect.
