i just bought my friend's 3sgte engine and was wondering has anyone from the forums done this before and if they have any tips about it? i was also wondering whether the stock gauge cluster will be usable with the new engine or would i have to have everything custommade
^^^^ whjat he said...good luck...if you get it done...you'll be the ..hmmmmmmmm 2nd celica 7th gen to ever pull this off...not to mention the tuning, and suspension work you'll need to get it running, and streetable
[b] Go for it bro...there is this guy who also this same swap at NC and had a silver veilslide kit like yours with the TRD wing and everything...lol. good luck with the install.
trust me its around 15 grand you talking new mounts, Intake manifold, Radiator, FMIC, Piping, custom transmission & splines, custom axles & Hubs... not to mention wiring & tuning etc... in other words...ALOT of work!
i think its the 3rd gen mr2 motor (jdm one) and i got it for 800, it has 55K miles on it, but i know a shop who can hook me up with some parts so its chill...15K is bit much dont you think?

Are you kidding? 3rd gen engine for $800? How can it be? What is the color of the timing belt cover? The turbo from 3rd gen 3sgte alone costs $600-$750 on eBay.
Remember, you'll also need to mod the engine once it's installed, or you'll be slower than a stock GTS. The engine may be able to become powerful, but its cast iron block also heavy (about twice the weight of the aluminum 2ZZ), so the weight offsets the power gains of the stock 3S-GTE. Not including the weight of the tranny, either (you did get a 3S-GTE tranny too, right? The 2ZZ's won't handle the power, or even bolt up). The install will need to be fully custom, so that helps jack up the price really quick. Expect $10K+ for installation plus mods to be faster than a GTS.
If mainly do it yourself then it wont cost that much. Alot of stuff to worry about though. some of which will be; motor mounts ecu wont work with engine so instruments wont work running all custom piping ect ect
