Hey, Im new to the site, I got a 1991 Celica GT, unfortunantly automatic, i wish i could change that. anyways i just got a ram air intake on it and that helps a bit, i was wondering how i could increase Torque and HP relativly cheap for starters. and how can i steam clean an engine?

you can get a better clutch/flywheel set, so that more of your BHP becomes WHP. also try an exhaust system and some headers. this is all assuming you want to stay n/a, and not f/i.

You cannot get a new clutch or flywheel (its located on the transmission for a stick-shift.)
You're best bet it to buy an exhaust system and a header to improve your air circulation.
so far you've got an air intake, which is good, but get an exhaust and a header to complete the air circulation process that your car goes through.

N/A = naturally aspirated; meaning you dont have a turbo or supercharger in your engine.
F/I = forced induction; meaning you have a turbo or supercharger in your engine.
F/I modifications are expensive, very expensive.

Ok, i understood the clutch thing, thats why i thought it was weird to get new ones. and as for the exhuast. what kind of muffler should i get, everyone around here talks of TRD but they dont make that for my model, what are my options in exauhst area. also i have only been able to find one supplier for my model for headers and they are like 570.00 dollers, is that reasonable?

also you can buy a new ECU from companies such as GReddy, HKS, Apexi, ETC. you can program this to tune your car and gain more HP and torque.
Do not buy anything from eBay that has a word "chip" in the title, IE, Super Chip that will give you an added 30hp. these are fake.

here is my suggestion for your exhaust: I think you should do a custom exhaust setup meaning that you buy a universal-fitting muffler, have a muffler shop creating a custom piping that can be welded onto your car. this is more cheaper and plus there arent that many selections out there for your celica. here are two types of mufflers you should get: Stinger Carbon Fiber muffler http://www.nopionline.com/nopistore/dsp_large_pic.cfm?vpic=L2553857.jpgor the Apexi-N1 muffler http://www.apexi-usa.com/graphics/pImgLeft_exhausts_universal3.jpg

i only put the Apexi-N1 muffler only becuase i thought that you would want a "name-brand" muffler. but it doesnt matter. Ok, thanks for that advice. this is my first car. i know its an older model, it has a 2.2L so why does the newer models have 180 HP at 1.8L? do you personally think my vehicle is worth modifying?

crap, that carbon fibert muffler is about 160.00 what is so different from the cheap 50 doller ones, performance wise? i think the $50 dollar ones will rust, there really isnt a performance gain with just a muffler maybe just like 3HP, you'll need better piping for it to gain more HP.

i don't know why i posted about the clutch and flywheel. i read that you have an auto, but i was just thinking about what i plan on doing on my car when i was typing. you could get a new torque converter, though.
as for the muffler, i doubt there is an difference in performance. it's just more expensive because carbon fiber is an expensive material.

i dont know if there is a torque converter out for his car, but he prolly can get one made (but its gonna cost a lot of money)

Have you tought of swapping your engine for the All-Trac (3SGTE) engine? that alone if around 220-ish HP. plus you wont have to worry about cops harassing your, because there is no law prohibiting you from upgrading your engine to follow the strict laws of Smog and Emission

K one last thing, sorry im posting so much. So basically the best step is exhuast right now. I plan on eventually getting headers, piping and muffler. what order should i do this in? and how much relativly is it for a muffler shop to put in new piping? shouldnt be that much, I'd say its around like $230ish. its a lot more cheaper than buying a "brand-name" exhaust. plus you can have the piping with less curves on it to give out more power.

oh yah, PM Easy_C or BlueBomber if they have a TPR exhaust that can fit your celica.
