haha so i was talking to my cousin he has a Mini Cooper S and he told me that near his house that the 76 gas station was selling racing fuel. 100 octane!!! i was like WT?? really. I never used 100 octane before. So Today I check it out and look around. And found out he was right, but it was only at 1 pump. the price per gallon was insane! 5.48 for a gallon. He told me that if i did fill some 100 octane to mix it with some other type of octane.

does the octane level really matter or help out the car at all???

Higher octance means your engine doesn't ping as much, so it doesn't apply to our cars, because that problem was elminated with newer cars. Regular unleaded should do about the same.

I heard there are performance gains, but not too sure. I've heard some convaluded information from both sides. confused

EDIT: by ping, I mean knocking. wave

Oh man... I'll post this before the thread gets 100 replies based on speculation.

Higher octane referes to the ability of the gas to be compressed without igniting. Higher compression engines like ours do require a higher octane, such as premium (91-93 octane). Without it, they knock. However, past the point that the engine no longer knocks, there is NO advantage in power or otherwise.

Higher octane gas burns slower so it's good for eliminating knocks in high comp/boosted cars. In our cars, we get nothing from it but excess carbon buidup.

yeah, it's like $4.80ish p/g over here...it's not worth it putting race fuel in our car. if you're boosted, that will be a different story... thumbsup

i have this place by me that not only has outrageous prices on regular gas, but also has 110 octane "racing fuel" as it says on the pump... its also extremely expensive

this place is the only one in about 1 square mile, weird yes, but right on the highway and actually gets a lot of business

1) Use the lowest octane possible that your engine can run without detonation.
2) Octane = flame retardant
3) In theory, water is the best octane, that's why WRC cars use water injection to cool down the intake air.

... true... you only need high octane for high compression engines, so that when the pistons compress the air/fuel mixture it wont explode because of the extreme pressure...

...plz nobody try injecting water, hehe water DOES NOT compress thats how you can hydrolock your engine, fill your cylinder with water, when the piston goes up the water is stronger than the connecting rod and , BAMMMM your engine is gone... hehe

I suggest you do more research before posting something you don't know shit about it.
Water injection has been used for many many years on WRC car. Friends have it and work really well. https://celicahobby.com/ubbthreads/thread.f0_1953281265_0_collapsed_5_186_1.html#1953281265

BTW, 100 octane could help a N/A Celica.

But you guys already knew that right?

A N/A Celica with PowerFC/e-manage can tune for track use with 100 octane, by advancing the ignition timing further than what can be done with pump gas, thus producing more horsepower within an acceptable knock level.

And you guys forget to mention nitrous users especially those going with the 75.

and just who the hell is going to shell out $70 to fill a tank with 100 octane in the first place? There's a market out there for that? confused

At the Toyota Grand Prix Of Long Beach all the Celica's GTS are running pure 100 octane race gas. Everything is stock except for the Cat (catalytic)is gone and the cars have stright exhaust piping.
I'm confused, because if octane didn't make a difference, why don't they just run 91 in all the GTS.

Don't go filling up your car with just 100 octane, because you will burn your Cat up. If you want to try it make sure you mix 1 gallon to 6 gallons of 91 octane and 2 gallons of 100 to 12 gallons of 91 octane. It's basically 1 gallon per 6 gallons

Oops, I read the chart wrong. It's 3 gallons of 100 to 6 gallons of 91 octane, which will boost the octane rating to 94.0.
Here's the chart for 91 and 100 octane mixtures. If anybody wants to ever try mixing just follow the chart. thumbsup

Do you have a logical explanation as to why you would burn your cat up with 76 100 octane? I would be interested in hearing it.

For hi boost applications the higher octane gas can actually bring out some the unused power, but generally they use like 103 or 107 octane gas. I also have a gas station near me that sells 103 octane gas for like $8/gallon.
