the exhaust is only a year old and the spot welds in the center box have started to pop out and leak

Yup, considering HKS makes the TRD exhaust, it's no surprise that their muffler design would fail on their own exhaust as well. thumbsdown thumbsdown

That's what I got I went over to LaBree motorsports out here in the Valley and got fixed up in an hour and a half. I'm liking it the new box slightly deepened the exhaust note a lot better sound wise. grin

They used to before the 2000 Celica came out, but now HKS makes the TRD exhaust for the Celica. Not sure if they make them for the other Toyotas, but Toyota's contract with Borla ended around 2000.

I've never had a problem with my HKS, and it's been on for 5 months now and I bought it used from a guy that's had it for 1-2 years. It's still clean and good.

Could just be a defect one, just luck I would say. And as for the rust problem goes that a member has mentioned, that only applies to the first generation HKS Hi-Power for the the Celica. The second generation (with the HKS engraving and silencer holes) have no rust problems whatsoever. I haven't heard a rust problem on the 2nd generation ones at all...
