i was trying to sell my car because i thought my mom was hinting it but then this weekend, she asked me if i wanted to trade my 03 gt for the 05 gts sometime next year. i'm not sure what to do. i just got a $2,231.66 scholarship check so i can put that towards mods or i can save that and help with getting the gts. i don't want to go turbo so i think it would be better having a gts. i heard from a friend who had a 2001 gts that the six-speed is a weak tranny. is that true? i'm planning on doing some autocrossing and getting a really good suspension setup. are people with gts able to stay in lift while doing autocrossing or is it useless? also is there any changes, even small ones like the all amber change from 02 to 03, from the 03 to the 05?
short version- -slightly modded 03 gt (5-speed) with money for more mods or totally stock 05 gts (6-speed). -don't want turbo.
thanks.

GTS if you can afford it. Just realize how much money it's going to cost to go from your car to a 05 GTS.
It won't do you much good in autox, but it's going to be FAR more fun for street driving.

thanks for the comments. everyone said to go gts hahah
rev- yea, we're going to be paying about $32k for the gts since i'll probably will be getting only $15k from the trade-in.

There is something very serious to be said for never selling or trading an upside-down car... but that's a decision that you'll have to make. Basically, you're paying all of that money for 40 HP once you're past 6k RPM, aluminum pedals, disc brakes, a 6th gear, and nicer wheels. I don't know if that's worth it to me. If it is to you, go for it.

upside down is refering to the amount your car is worth for the dealer (trade-in) subtracted from the actual debt that you incurred for the purchase (depreciation & interest).
if your remaining debt is so detrimental to the overall new purchase price (gts price plus carried debt) than it is quite a dilemma like revmonster said.
don't trade in and you keep the savings for extra mods for your gt. trade in and you get a better platform. but is that platform's difference worth the newly incurred cost?

The other thing I'm looking at...
You've already modded your car a bit. You have the GTS pedals, cai, and full suspension. If you do sell, I'd strongly advise moving all that onto your new car. It's not worth a cent to the dealer's trade value.
I don' know... your car looks nice. A GTS isn't THAT much faster stock than a GT, and you could do the wise thing and save all that money for an even nicer car once your GT is paid for.

If you're serious about autox, keep the GT. It's got a much wider power band than the GTS, and should be able to beat it with equal drivers.

Stick with the GT and put your money into mods. I would rather have a GT with mods than a stock GTS. That my opinion, but I hate having stock cars so i am bias.

The GTS is a better platform with +40hp, so with $2000 in mods on a GT won't make 40 more hp. But as earlier stated the debt incurred with the trade-in and new car would be higher, but its not like your parents are going to give you that money to spend on mods anyway. Since your not going with turbo, I assume you want to go N/A, so the better choice would be the GTS, because the vvtl-i would really help, that's why manufacturers made different variations of variable valve/lift to help N/A cars make the power to compete with turbocharge cars.

^^ yeah i mean you lose so much money doing the trade. thats just throwing thousands away right there. i dunno if its reallly worth it. might as well save it till your car dies and you can buy a brand new one years from now.

gts all the way you gonna love 6 gears did someone answer my question about whether or not the 6 gears is a weak trans system yet? The GTS is a better platform with +40hp, so with $2000 in mods on a GT won't make 40 more hp. what if ..
i talked to my sister online yesterday and she said she'll be happy to take the gt. so i'm going to talk to my mom if she'll be ok with getting me the gts and let my sister have the gt instead of losing money on the trade in. my sister will need a car soon anyway, she has her license for over a year now. so i think my problem is solved and we'll have two celicas in the family, i hope ..

celica > sti? 140 HP, 5 speed transmission, front disc brakes, 15 inch wheels, 2 door hatchback > 300 HP, 6 speed gearbox, 4 wheel brembo brakes, BBS wheels, 4 door, already tuned and stiff suspension, horizontally opposed turbo boxer engine? ...? im sure im forgetting more qualities about the WRX, but is it just me or does this inequality just not sound right?
