so how can you? how much would it cost to fix?

No appreciable power gain at 6200 = worn lift bolts.

It's a do-it-yourselfer if you are so inclined...1 hour job and fairly easy with right tools - ratchet, socket extension and swivel joint, 10mm socket, 5mm allen wrench for plastics. To have a garage do it, s/b <1 hour charge, basically no more difficult than changing valve cover gasket.

yeah what he said^^^^ I did mines myself and it took about 2 hours because I took my time and I was interested on how my motor looked like on the inside But if you have a actually "broken" lift bolt in your motor then your screwed because from I heard on previous stories on here that it costs a grip on money.

They're not broken or worn out yet i was just wondering so in case it did happen i would know what to do. better safe than sorry. thanks for the info

its probably best to replace them every certain amount of miles or times used

I have close to 85,000 miles on my GTS and lift is as strong as it's always been. I'm going to replace them soon. Just like any other maintenance on my car. I believe it's time and I don't believe the bolts have to be replaced every 15,000-30,000 miles or whatever. If you think they do then maybe you should worry about other things on your engine if you are pushing it that hard all the time.
I beat on my car and my lift is still golden and brings a smile to my face.
Remember I drive a GTS and beat on it probably before most here. So I have an idea how others could break the bolts, wear out the clutch prematurely, blow engines, bent valves, blown transmissions, bad synchros, etc. It's mainly due to driver error, inexperience, and neglect and over abuse over time.
You drive hard expext to pay to get it fixed and don't blame Toyota and their engineers. Just pray you are still under warranty.

if its broken, go to ace hardware or something like that and ask for "easy-out" Its like a reverse screw you drill into the broken bolt. works like a charm for me.

check it every 3000 miles just be safe...

the general consensus is to check them every 10-15K...it takes only 15 min to open up the engine cover and check them...plus with the new style bolts you would't have a problem of having the broken part lodged in there.

i changed mines...the old ones were still good...but didnt want to run the change of having a broken bolt...cuz then it will cost more $$$ to replace

whats the part name for replacement ones again? something like lift flange bolts?

what's the actual technical name for lift bolts? like if i need to get some what would i ask for and how many of them would i ask for?

I believe its flange bolts, and I think you need 8?

wow if you search this has been gon eove rto death. also if you check the install section of the site theres a nice pictorial on how to do it yourself.

1) wearing is not the problem breaking is. theres no garaunteed time limit as to when they may break.

2) theres only 2 bolts and its less then an hour job. (depending on your skills)

3) if you have a 2000 - 2001 I suggest swappin the bolts to be safe. the old bolts were found to be unreliable which is why the redesigned bolts came out in 2002.

4) broken lift bolts are NOT cause by driver error. thats the funniest rumor I've ever heard. They break due to a design flaw.

5) the new style bolts donot break as easily but should still be checked every 15-20K or every 4th oil change. if you wanna be safe. if you dont care never check em. it's up to you lol

forget everything to the left of the 2. take your last 8 of your vin and see if its numerically before the last 8 posted here. If it is.. you have the old style lift bolts.

So i looked at the installation process to put new lift bolts in, i am not mechanically inclined. can anybody that has done it tell me if i need a lot of mechanical expertise?

My call - do NOT need a lot of 'mechanical expertise' to change the bolts. It's easy with the right tools.
