hello im new to this site and in need of help. i just bought a new GTS celica and installed an AEM CAI. Well now the check engine light pops up once in a while after i start the car. I am always disconnecting the battery to erase it but the light pops up again after a day or two. Ive installed everything correctly and the car only has about 600 miles on it so i know nothing is wrong. Please help me out, i know this is a commom problem...Thankx

Check your connections, take a picture of the setup and post it here, and at the least, get the code pulled.

it would be easier to jus get a code because it happened to me and it was an O2 sensor

so your CEL was the result of your O2 sensor after an intake install? I dont think thats my problem since the car is brand new with 600miles.

Did you reset your ECU after install?

Put your stock airbox back on and see if the CEL goes away

There's a very good chance that it's just the intake itself that's causing the problem, even if it is installed properly. Happened to tons of intake owners, since almost all aftermarket intakes are improperly designed.

Not really the way it's mounted, but what's around its mounting location. If you check the stock airbox, you'll see some fins around the MAFS that aren't present on any other intake out there except TPR (and my intake mod). There's a reason they're there: to maintain proper airflow through the MAFS. Without that, the air goes around the MAFS instead, throwing off readings and leading to bogging and CELs (P0171 - lean).

This is one of your options:
newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=127861

Your other two options are picking up a TPR CAI or an Apexi PowerFC. Those three are the only things that will get rid of your intake related CELs (besides putting back your stock airbox wink ).

Check this out if you have a newer Celica. I believe the AEM instructions are for 00-01 or 02.

Just a minor difference, but my CEL was doing the same thing... Now it's been off for nearly a year.

hey thanks for the reply but im having trouble understanding your directions...uncap the nipple on the intake manifold with a hose, but where does the hose connect to on the other end and where did you get the hose from? is it off the stock intake box? Also where is the other spot im suppose to cap? sorry cant really see the pics but thanks for the info!!

Let's see if I can explain it, hehe... Uncap the nipple on the manifold, plug the hose back in. The other end of the host should connect to the top of a 3-way connector (like an upside-down T). Then the right side of the upside-down T should be capped instead. The left side has a hose running to... umm.. somewhere on the right side of the engine bay =)

This very issue is what led me to join this site. I have a K&N cold air intake that I installed and have since experienced the same problem. The symptoms are all the same, but I am wondering if anyone has tried recalibrating their computer? I have a Jet performance recalibration kit that I haven't used, but would be curious to know if anyone has already tried this, as well as whether or not it worked.
