When the car's idling (and maybe when it's going I dunno, can't hear it over the engine! ) it sorta squeeks. It's not like a loud screeching or anything, but kind of a higher-pitch, low-volume squeek, squeek, squeek - constantly. I would guess maybe a belt somewhere, but I'm really not at all sure. (It's an '04 GTS). Any suggestions/opinions? =)

The car has about 11,000 and some change, I noticed the noise a week or two ago. Haven't changed any belts or washed the engine at all...

Mine's been doing it all the time (at start-up, after driving for hours, and all the times in between!
Mine idles at 2,000 when it's first turned on and/or really cold. Then it goes back to 1,000 again.

Idle at 2000 is normal to warm the engine

It's your belt making the noise. Your belt tensioner is probably broken (happens to just about everyone, multiple times), causing uneven wear on the belt. Just pick up a Goodyear Gatorback belt to solve the noise forever.

This si something that would be covered under warranty, no? I'm kinda strapped for cash right now... Well, actually I'm dead broke, especially with needing new tires and registration fees soon Oh well, I think I can scrape by and not have to give 'er up! But... Warranty, or no? And how expensive is a Gatorback? =)

Not sure about the GT, but the last 3 numbers are the length of the belt. The GTS belt is 76.3 inches, so you'd just need to find out the length of the GT belt and insert that number instead: 4060xxx. You can get it from any authorized Goodyear dealer. And how expensive is a Gatorback? =) The Gatorback is anywhere from $40-60 depending on where you get it from. The stock belt is covered under the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty, so if you're under either numbers, you can get it fixed free. Not sure how long it'll be till you need another belt, though, since the noise always comes back with regular belts.

I've heard multiple times that the conditioner actually makes the problem worse, and should only be used while waiting for a new belt, not as a replacement for one. I've also heard it's messy. mine only squeaks at cold mornings. and it goes away after driving for a while. is gatorback gonna take care of that? Yup, the Gatorback is made of synthetic material, and has "teeth" in it to cancel out any vibrations that may be created by wear, eliminating squealing.

One more question... Are they gonna know what I'm talking about if I just tell them 'the belt tensioner/belt' or does it have a specific name? Most of them didn't know what a cold air intake was when I took it in before...
