What does everyone think of a 1995 240sx?? There is one for sale in my town for 4500 dollars and it looks like it could be a great car to build from the ground up. I would put a sr20det red or black top on it. Any suggestions would be great!!

Go for it. I test drove a '93 with a friend and it was a blast. RWD and great handling.

hope you have a second car thats really dependable. My bro has a '90 that we built up and the engine drop in was a sinch but the wiring for the new motor was a bitch. some lines you have to extend since it's left side drive in the US. Also the SR20 motors are really prone to overheating (aluminum block, turbo) a friend of mine has one and when he took it to a track day the coolant in the coolant resevoir was boiling (literally)only after about 4 laps.
IMO i think that the celica is a better all around car: 1: because its new and dependable for a daily driver
2: pretty solid chasis, handles very good for stock and it has amazing brakes.
3: pretty good cooling system, at button willow i was able to get in 15 laps in a row with no problems, in 101 F degress ambient temps

Thanks for the info Kim, and i am going to probably keep the celica, but in stock form to drive as my daily driver. My parents are trying to talk me into building up an integra, which seems like it would be a better overall car for me, but i am not sure what i am going to do yet. I still have a few weeks to decide.

the 240sx would be nice for a secondary car. I was looking at one for a while. You should definitely get the s15 conversion for ~2grand...then it will look soo hot! then either buy a turbo kit for the KA24 or go the JDM route to the s15...either way you will have a killer car...with rwd to play with. IMO having a celica and an integra is too much the same.

DAMN... thats cheap. Ive been wanting to get one for a while. Need a project car to build. I wouldnt go SR20, look around the parts cost an arm and a leg. To build it to be a monster you would be looking at about 10,000 or more. Id build the hell out of the KA and do a sick turbo setup like sbocaj55 has suggested. The SR20 has been a popular thing to do, but what most doent understand is that you can get neer the same performance out of the KA. The KA has a lot more torque than the SR20, however, the SR20 will put down more HorsePower. More HP, less torque. More Torque, Less Horsepower. Youll get the same performance for half the price out of the KA, and it will be a more constant power band. The SR20 is going to exercise most of its power at high RPM's and with significant turbo spool time. But when it hits it will be insane. Fourth gear for the SR20 is mean.
Id go KA.

If i am not mistaked the red top is just the older version, therefore easier to find.

Since drifting is becomming the big thing these cars are going in demand big time, it certainly would be fun to have one just to goof around in and drift at night or even at the track. I'd say if you can afford it and want a toy then definitely go for it, slap some springs in, get some crap tires and drift!

The 95 240 is great project car. Dropping in a S14 or S15 imo is better then turboing the KA20. If you decide to drop in a Silvia motor, you may want to find a shop that can rewire the ecu and the harness because it well make the install easier. My cousin did a SR20 swap a few years ago and they sent it to some shop in Texas and they not only rewired it but also tuned it for about $250, and it just plugs in after that, no wire splicing. As for the engine it may just be cheaper to get a whole front clip then to just get the engine alone, opting for the front clip you can then do a front end conversion and get the better Silvia suspension.

my buddy just picked up an '89 240 for $300. he's going to do the black top sr20 conversion.
most people are either for the sr20 or for the ka24. they both have their advantages (the sr20 can have hella power VS the ka24 can have power for less $$$, and it's a truck motor, so it can handle abuse), so you just kinda have to figure out what you want from the engine and then go with the right engine for what you want. either way, let us know what you decide to do

Yeah if you are a little short on money like i said go for the ka24T. More torque, can handle more abuse, and is cheaper...unless of course it has high miles and everything...either way let us know!

Id go KA. I have a 97 and all i can say is that when you drive an RWD car you wont want to drive FWD anymore. FastCelica is right though the prices for the S-14 and the SR20 chassis are really expensive. And the S-13 is quickly becoming the new civic. AS for the engine I've been thinking of going turbo KA myself only cause it won't be a pain to get the engine and if anything goes wrong you can usually get a new KA for like 600 bux.

A $30 upgrade for your KA engine. oh btw that's a nice sil85. I like the 180 also but with the kouki lights in the back.
