I remember reading about this a bunch of times but it's escaped me on what the actual situation between the seventh generations are when it comes to the rev limiter and the pro's and con's.

00-02 has a higher rev limit and fuel cut-off than the 03+ correct? What are the pro's and con's of this between the changes.. am I losing out on higher rev's and potentially more fun or even more "power" in the lower gears since my limiter is lower. Note that I have a '03 GTS. On another note, my moms '02 GTS seems to be an earlier release in it's year because it has the tighter shift gates and I imagine it also would have the differant limiter and such...

Edit: Is there any thing that can be done to my car to set the rev's higher, or would that just be a bad idea? Although it's not very often I even go to 7000rpm and I believe the limit on my car is 7800rpm...

Hmm.. I thought it was like 7800 redline and 8400 fuel-cut off for 00-02 and then 03+ was some thing differant.

i think the celica gts still makes power until 8600.. taking it higher is pointless since it doesnt gain any more power.. plus it would be stressing the engine hard at high rpms. dangerous! but yeah the 02 rev limiter sucks ass.. i can still feel my car can keep goin and make more power.. anyone wanna trade an 02 ECU for 00/01 ECU?? grin

No, redline on all GTS's is 7800.

For the 02's only, the fuel cut-off was lowered to redline.

slidr: Thanks, I had thought the redline was a bit differant, but good to know I'm not losing out on the rpm aspect.

And for the above, I wouldn't actually want to take it any higher than it is, I had meant that if the 03+ had a lower red limit than the previous years that I'd be inclined to change the limit to the higher one but that would be the max as I am aware that any thing higher is potentially bad and dangerous to the engine.

A lil OT but tonight I was out in some farm roads with my brother and I showed him the wonder of the life, and damn it felt nice and is pretty noticable.

Ah but you do make power in the upperband.. just need the fuel map for it.
