i was just looking through the store on this site and i saw the Injen Race Division CAI and the Injen ShortRam Intake. Whats the difference between these two? any difference in performance?

the cai makes more power, because it operates in the cooler air in front of the tire, rather than the hot air under the hood, but also, since it is closer to the ground, it will suck up water into it easier, someone else can post a pic of the cai installed

RD one is a CAI and will go behind the wheel well...providing more air flow to it, having a little better gains...but is also prone to water such as hydrolocking.

Shortram is an alterate if afraid of hydrolocking and for show and it will has great performance.

dont forget you can get a bypass valve to elminate water if you would rather go with the CAI thumbsup thumbsup

oh and for the shortram, do you have to do some custom cut piping or stuff like that or is it already shaped so it'll fit the celica when you take it right out of the box?

if you go to www.newcelica.org [newcelica.org] there are dynos on all sorts of intakes so you can see...

with shortram you do NOT have to cut away at anything to have it fit...it is simple and easy to install. No messing around with stock equipment.

hydrolocking is pretty rare. it only happens when you drive through deep puddles and the end of the tube becomes submerged. as long as you avoid driving in very hevy rain you should be fine. thumbsup

how much cutting or welding or whatever do you have to do to install a Cold Air Intake? Is it all that difficult? is it possible to do it yourself without having "special" tools? Im still debating which one i should get. Some ppl say I should get a CAI cos it has better gains and others say that a ShortRam is just as good as a CAI. AHHHHHHH! so confused!!!

Difference one goes in the engine back (shortram) other goes into the fender well (cold air intake aka C.A.I)

its easy to install just take off ur front bumber and then you have to cut a hole in the inner fender a lil bigger than the orange piping going down

The only cutting of the pipe you need to do is if you install a bypass valve. But cut the pipe before the mass airflow sensor or your ecu will mess up

I just went through the whole CAI vs. shortram debate about a month ago. Reality is that installing the CAI is not as easy as some make it sound - you have to cut plastics and the Injen provided instructions are lousy. (And, I'm not too terribly handy with tools!)

If you go CAI, get the instructions provided by Isaac in the installs section of this site. Ask yourself whether you prefer a nominal gain in HP with the CAI or the better show quality of the short ram. I live in OR so the rain/hydrolock factor was huge for me. Short ram wins in my world.

I recommend the Cold Air Intake.. the power gain is much better, and you don't really need to worry about hydrolocking unless you have you car submerged in water and then you floor it.. i've had a CAI through snow rain and a lot of shit and haven't had any problems.. so i recommend the CAI thumbsup

either one is good...
CAI you do have to cut at the fender well and I thought you had to cut away at the ECU cooling pipe or something? Those reasons I did not want the CAI...so I got shortram.

how difficult was it to put on the bypass valve for the AEM CAI intake? can someome with basic auto repair knowledge do it?
