i have a gts 2002 and since income tax is coming soon and i cant get the hood i want, i am going to get nitrous-(i am leaning towards zex nitrous) keep in mind i am a beginner with nitrous so i want a simple nitrous system i am thinking of putting it inbetween my back seats but the only doubt i hav about that is cops and whether or not that will cause some bad attenion and if its illegal in pa i dont know-if you could give me a few ideas on where to put it and what a good system is that would be great i think im gonna want to keep it at a 50 shot to be somewhat safe thanks in advance

well I know for a fact in minnesota having nitrous is not illegal, cause I got caught driving DAS and they searched my car and the cop found the nitrouse hooked up in the trunk but didnt give me a ticket or anything for it. The only thing he asked about it was if I used it to try to get away from him, I would of but unfortuanley I had all the switches for it disconnected for it at that time, but the bottle was full and Open.

^^^I think you can use dry if you are going the direct injection way.

^^^which ever one it is I would recomend not getting direct Injection unless your engine is built up at least a little bit so it can handle the extra power.

Sure maybe but if Nitrous is so Blatenly illeagal like everyone says it is then I think he would of given me a ticket for it. I am not defending that it is leagal or not I am just saying in my own experience that I was never given a Citation for it. And I am not lying about my story. thumbsup

my first advice is not to go nitrous to begin with. if you want power go with something conitious like s/c or turbo...i dunno about other places but it costs 20 bucks just to refill one bottle here in cali.

but in my opinion if it was nitrous any system would do (NOS, Zex, Venom, etc...). get a wet set up with WOT switch and not some switch on your steering wheel or console.

the guy who dynoed had AEM CAI, Greddy EVO Exhaust, NX (0, 50,75 Shot) @ 212.9 whp 216.1 tq...with a turbo you can reach the same numbers @ 6psi and you don't have to fill up the bottle all the time. thumbsup

wet system injects it into the cai right next the throttle body. Zex is very good because of its built in control box with constantly monitors the a/f to make sure everything is running sweet. you can expect a good 20second of use out of a 10lb bottle. You want purge because it looks cool and helps the system. Remote bottle opener so you don't have to goto the trunk. Gauges and crap adds up to around 800$, not bad for 50-75hp of fun.

Unless you can also prove that it is illegal in MN to posses nitrous in car than you are also wrong. so as it stands right now nobody is right or wrong. I was just posting my experience which is not a opinion but is a fact that I did not get a ticket for possesing something you say is illegal.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...you're in minnesota. you're suppposed to know. am I supposed to do that research for you? there have been numerous articles that using nitrous oxide was only for off-road use, in magazine and even the liability section in some of the nitrous packages!

i was questioning you STATING that it was indeed legal in minnesota and not wether or not some cop gave you a ticket or not. that is irrelevant...would you want me to post your quote or can you find it yourself? rofl

Back to the question of which Kit you should get.

It depends on how much of the operation you want to do yourself and how safe you want it to be.

From research that I have done, a 50 shot is a very safe amount to run on any engine. Also, many peoplehave jumped up to 75 without any major safe guards like timing retard and stronger internals.

Wet systems are nice because they spit extra fuel in with the N2O to keep the Air-Fuel mixture at the proper and optimal levels.

If you have a lot of self control then I think a 50 shot NOS system should be fine as a begining stage. But, if you think you might want to hold that little button down for longer than recommended then get a system that controls the spray for you.

Many companies make systems that only allow the N2O to be released at certain RPM's and throttle positions. Also, if you ever get the hunger for more, you can get Timing retard units that alters the firing of the spark plugs to help eliminate detonation.

Really it is what kind of money and gains you are looking for. N2O is a very safe and effective way for increasing horsepower. Alot of people blow cars up because they don't research what they are about to attempt, they also get greedy and run bigger jets than what is safe from their setup. Just do some homework and see what is best for you. I would suggest a NOS 50 shot system either wet or if you want to run a dry system then do a small amount of retarding to your timing because you have a lot of compression as is. Just be smart and you should be fine.

An auto gts with an intake and exhaust gets 154 horsepower? Is that to the wheels? Makes you question dynos and peak horspower numbers since the auto gt is WAY below that in horsepower and suppose to keep up or even beat the auto gts.

OMG...tell me you're joking.
first of all the whole auto Gt and auto GTS myth has been debunked.there was a race held by CaliGTS and the auto GT lost...BAD. a auto GT stock can run 17.1, a stock auto gts has run 16.9 (check msn.com)
second-it's a 2ZZ engine. it would react the same way any 2zz would react.gearing is why the auto gts can supposedly lose to the auto gt.
third-don't listen to everything you hear. guys over at N.C. are pure performance guys and frown at anything auto...again this myth has already been debunked.

I agree with everything that you are saying but 0.2 seconds? Thats not that big of a difference for that 40 horsepower jump. Im just saying that horsepower number seems misleading.

I TOTALLY AGREE! that auto gts gearing is horrible...why toyota made a 4-speed auto with a high revving engine that hits lifts at 6200 and ends at 7800 is beyond me... spineyes

Alright I did some research and found it is illegal to have in a car, but there is a catch you can have it on a public road if the bottle is disconnected from the system. I am not sure what state this is for but I its probally the same for all states

Ok there are different ways to look at this, Yes Nitrous is illegal to use on public roads but not illegal to posses in a car which is prolly the reason I did not get a ticket for in MN. So this is right and wrong but it somewhat explains the reason me not getting a ticket for possesing it in my car. It is Obviously Illegal to use on public roads which I already knew, I was trying to come across that you can have it in a car which is proven now.

ok if you didn't notice its been days since anybody has posted anything, besides nobody was fighting we were both just trying prove a point. And last time I checked you don't spell "ghey" with a H so I guess that makes you the 2nd grader. So go back to school and learn how to spell.

I'm also looking at a ZEX kit. I would do a dry shot if I knew it would work with our cars and was safe, but ZEX doesn't list a dry kit as being compatible--they only show the wet kit. NX doesn't even make dry kits, because they are convinced wet is better, so at this point if I do install nitrous, I imagine I'll go with the wet shot.

As far as the legality of nitrous, the link posted earlier was informal comments specifically related to California. The rule seems to be that anything that is not explicity approved via CARB/DOT approval is not legal. Therefore, the exact same product (header, for example) can be legal from one company (DC Sports) and illegal from another company (Hotshot). It doesn't appear that many companies have tried to get a rubber stamp on their nitrous kits, so technically they are for "off road" use only. However...

"Q: Does NOS manufacture 50-state legal nitrous systems?
A: Yes. In fact, NOS has several EO numbers for various kits such as the 5.0L Mustang and 305/350 GM V8's, etc. In addition, there is no need to remove any smog equipment when installing an NOS system. For more information call the NOS tech line." (from www.holley.com [holley.com])

This would appear to indicate that it's not necessarily illegal to use nitrous on the street, but the laws may still vary by state.

if a person is worried about the law that the bottle must be disconnected AND wants to run nitrous on the street for "testing" purposes, THEN the solution is clear:

Have a fake disconnected bottle in plain sight AND a real connected bottle that is hidden, for example in a subwoofer box or in the spare tire recess.

or you can just hide the bottle very well and claim no bottle is in the car, and have empty brackets for the missing bottle.

btw, if a cop knows what he is doing (SD cops are going to school for this) he will know to look around the intake for a nitrous nozzle, as well as a EO Carb # of course. So considering this you better have your real bottle hidden.
