Should I trade my car in and get a Lancer Evolution VIII or should I get a turbo. I have a 2004 manual GTS. I've had it for about 3 months and put 1023 miles on it. If I get an Evo, I wont have much money for mods though. What should I do?

wtf

May I ask how old you are and what job you have... and why you would trade a car in after three months?

I would go trade it in for an Evo if budget won't be a problem. I dunno but for me I don't care much on mods if I have an Evo. It's already good just the way it is.

I'd go with the EVO. Turbo Celi isn't up to par with EVO. AWD > FWD

Tell your parents to trade in their Celica for an Evo.

When you ask about trading in car with 3 months and 1000 miles on it, we all assumed you are a kid whose parents paid for it. Why? Because no adult who actually worked to support himself and pay for a car would do that. rolleyes

If anything bash him for being fickle...not for being more fortunate than you are...I'll admit I got a little pissed when a girl in my class got a brand new '04 GTS and she doesn't even pay for her gas..never lifted a finger in her life...but oh well life isn't 'fair'...

oh and kickscrew i'd definitely go for the evo if you have the money...which i take it you and/or your family does. get yellow or black thumbsup It's a shame to lose the value buying new and selling so soon...whoever you sell it to gets a new car for a couple grand less than they should pay for it... Anyway good luck and just don't crash it! thumbsup

btw i hope i don't get bashed for supporting you just because i'm young too...

Hey, I have no problems with people who are fortunate. If your parents want to buy you a car, that's fine with me. Everyone needs a car, if your parents can afford to buy you a nice one, that's none of my business. What bugs me is that he's gone from fortunate to just wasteful. He gets a $25k car and has it for three months... then gets bored and wants to waste another $15k of his parents money on an Evo. If he was paying for all this himself, that's fine. If it's worth $15k of your own money to trade a 3 month-old car, you're feeling the financial impact. Right now he doesn't realize any of the weight of these decisions, so hopefully some of these posts will get through to him.

I wouldn't be so bothered by this, except I knew kids like this in HS... and when they stopped getting a blank check from their parents, life was one big disapointment.

My parents diddent buy my car, I paid for it. They helped out a little but not nearly enought to say they bought it for me. I would plan to buy the Evo out of my own pocket as well.

8 dollars per hour x 40 hours = 320 dollars a week

Celica = 25k = 78 weeks

Evo = 35k - 20k trade-in = 15k

15k = 46 weeks

Sooo... if you worked full-time since you were 14, that would be the only way you could have saved enough for both your Celica and the Evo. That's assuming 40 hours a week, which is both illegal and impossible with school.

Wow guys...give the kid a break...who are you guys to try and total out how much money he has in his bank account and say what he can and cannot afford. He came on here to ask a general question, and what he got was a bunch of bs saying "you can't afford an EVO" and crap like that. There are so many different scenerio's on how he could afford this car it's incredible, ie:inheritance, stuff along those lines...so who cares if he can afford the damn car or not, he's a big boy, he can make that decision on his own, or he'll learn the hard way and get into a car payment he actually can't afford. Either way just give an answer and be done...the thread doesn't say..."Who thinks I can afford an Evo, and do you think my parents bought my GTS"?

agreed. My one friend's grandfather owned some crazy amount of GE stock from i don't know...maybe the 30's or 40's. My friend is this guy's only grandson, and this guy only had one son himself (my friend's father)...and this stock was worth enough to put my friend through college and buy a new car...but his dad won't let him buy a brand new car. He was going to get an RX-8...

Like RevMonster said, there is no way you had the money to pay for your celica unless you were living in cuba and "survaying" (spell check thumbsup) land. Also, this is assuming you don't pay taxes and your parents pay for everything of yours.

maybe his parents co-signed the loan with him.

If you can really afford it, go with the EVO or, like was suggested earlier, an STI. Just be careful enough to not take on more debt than you can handle. Its hard to get a good job when you're under 18 unless you work for family.

the monthly payments and the insurance for your age bracket, that's going to take a substantial amount of overtime just to have the car. not to mention maintenance, gas, and other expenses...

I think it's around 80 whp, but it depends on what psi you run.

OK, I'm not particularly knowledgable about turbos, but it was my understanding that a turbo is a difficult thing to do on a high compression engine like the 2ZZ, and the HP boost isn't typically worth the effort. What's the downside of soemthing like the C2? Reduced engine life?

I am only 18 and I have a GTS. Its a 2000 which I got for 15 in Feb. I am paying for that with my own money. My parents do insurance which helps a lot but I have to do good in college. Since I am going to college I have little money to spend but its enough to pay my GTS thumbsup I didn't have a car at 16(I got mine when I was 17) but hey if he can get it who cares how he goes about it. smile thumbsup

^^As well as some financial experience. Buddy, money is hard to come by. Working that 8 dollar job should say something. As a bartender, I make a shitload more than you, but i have college to worry about as well as saving up for other things too. My car was paid for by my parents, but I didn't have one until I was 17.

for your celica, they will give you around $19000-21000. the new evos are like $34000, but i would do a evo regardless. just watch the tranny, their 10yr 100000mile warranty doesn't cover it. mitsuibishi have crappy tanny as we all know...

you're going to be paying like 700 a month for it or more
plus, with what spaztikid said, you will need to know how to drive a car much better than you probably can now..i was reading all about the STi and how the FIRST thing people say is learn how to drive it or forget it, it's not like any other car.
and i still don't believe you can afford it otherwise, you will be dumping more money out of the bank just to have it...
so would you rather have more money that you have to pay back...or use money you have to buy something that will be equally just as good.

i do not think it is a decision for US to make, this is yours...it's your money, your car, your life..why would we tell you what to do? both cars will be substantially different, it's either you like one or the other.

wtf

OK, he already said he's putting out cash and not making payments. And before anyone goes off judging that because a person is young, that he is therefore an inexperienced driver, and therefore shouldn't be driving something like, say, an Evo, remember you can screw up/have an accident/total a car at any age.

I'm still trying to understand the benefits of a turbo on a GTS; I had understood most were still "under development", and what is the downside of putting on a turbo. My bias would be to stick with the Celica, and turbo if possible - I'm not a big Evo fan.
