WOW!
I went to borla website since I ordered one online today.
And it said that the catback will save you gas!
I thought it takes more gas because it has better airflow...
When I installed my intake the gas seems to drop really fast.

Here's the FAQ from borla website...
Can this be true? or are they just trying to sell their product?

Q. Will I get better gas mileage?

A. Yes, a better performing engine uses less fuel more efficiently, increasing fuel economy under normal cruising conditions. BORLA뭩 patented flow through design and proper diameter mandrel bent tubing evacuate the exhaust gases out the system much faster and at a much greater temperature than factory exhaust. This results in performance gains in HP when you plant your foot and fuel economy at cruising speeds. And, the bigger the vehicle, the bigger the engine, the bigger the load, the bigger the savings in fuel. That's why UPS delivery trucks are Borla-equipped!

I'm a little skeptical, but if it is true, note that it's only under "normal cruising conditions." It's one thing to be more efficient, but for a given efficiency, if you do something to make more power, you are going to use more gas. Since most people who install intakes and aftermarket exhausts are likely to stomp on the accelerator, there is no fuel savings. Maybe you would see some if you never go higher than 3-4K RPM, but where's the fun in that?

when you add a cold air, you probably shouldnt feel any more gas burning. ur gas mileage probably should have been better. and yea, most aftermarket exhausts will give you better gas mileage. air intake for breathing in, and exhaust for breathing out. better flow, less gas burn, better combustion thats how you get more HP. but when you gun it for pleasure to hear the car roaring, then you are gonna burn more gas.

intake and exhaust are suppose to help with gas mileage, however, in my opinion with our cars it seems to have the opposite effect. May have something to do with the problems with the ECU's when modding the celicas.

That's what i think FastCelicaGt. I think the ECU is kinda confused. wtf

My cars a GT Auto, so for normal conditions I should be able to save gas. But with my Short ram intake I seem to be losing gas more quickly... maybe it's because I want to hear my intake and rev my car a lot... i don't know

eh, actually, NO! when you add bolt on performance parts, you got what? free up more air and get you some hp, right? more air coming in means more gas is used. you've to feed a horse more grass to make it run, right??? wave

if you put aftermarket parts in it... it will use more gas.. like ragingpaseo said... the more air you put in the more gas it will use. in return you get more power.. thumbsup rice

YOu guys are wrong!

Look at this way: you are on the highway cruising whit your regular speed:

-you got a stock car, both intake and exhaust is stock, you breathing the engine is harder, you need more air from the intake to be able to work against the back pressure in the exhaust...more air-more fuel.
-you got a WELL designed cold air intake, the air that gets in is a LOT denser, and the exhaust has less beckpressure, so the engine does not have to work as hard, your pedal position will be less agressive to maintain the gives speed.

When you free up more air the intake air velocity increases, which promotes better mixing of the fuel with air and reduces the amount of fuel adhering to the intake port and cylinder wall when the engine is cold. This means less fuel is needed for combustion

both intake and exhaust will give you better gas mileage yes theres more air and more gas going in but its buring it more effectinly so the engine doesn't work as hard

when i put an intake on my moms durange the mileage went from 8 city to 10 city and with exhaust went to 12 city

(all she does is city driving back and forth to work)

put in a vacum gauge, I did, and it's really helped me get more fuel economy. You don't even realize how much gas you waste when cruising until you "see" what you're doing wrong. A Vac gauge is easy to read, keep it at 10 PSI vacum or more to conserve. I used to think I could "feel" through the pedal how much the butterfly was open, man; I was WAAAY off. After driving with a vac gauge in the car, I realized how much gas I could save by being a bit lighter on the pedal.

Cruising, good intakes & exhaust will save you a little fuel, but when you jump on it, it'll suck fuel big time. So, both arguments are acvtually true.

When cruising, keeping an eye on the vac gauge, my mileage has improved somewhat, a full tank goes a lot further. Of course, if I jump on it and rev the motor hard, the fuel bars will start dropping a lot faster.

So, with gas being so pricey, I don't jump on my car much, maybe once or twice a week, this way, I usually spend about $10 on gas each week, and I drive a LOT!

Also remember to maintain your tire pressure, under inflation or over inflation can effect fuel economy. thumbsup
