OK...this kid in my school who thinks hes the shit about cars...and who I admit knows more then me (im still really new at this stuff) says that compression has nothing to do with a turbo...is this true or not?

compression has everything to do with a turbo. the lower the compression the more boost. the higer the compression the less amounts of boost.
notice the 7th gen GTS celicas high compression only way to turbo/supercharge it is to lower the compression a bit to be able to boost a little. but then again there have been a few people that have turboed high compressions motors and are able to boost but the engine will wear down quicker.
most of the turbo cars youll see on the road there compressions range from 8 to 1 - 9 to 1 compression. so yeah compression does make a difference.

Regular turbo engines has compression from 8:1 to 9:1 Regular street engines used to be in the 9's, and high performance and racing N/A engines hit 10, and 11:1
The lower the compression the easier job you got turbocharging it, you can use lower rated fuel, less safety devices, ect.. The low to mid responds will suffer, but usually turbo freaks just don't care and add more BOOOOST...nothing meets the rush of a well made turbo system.

There's this thing called static compression (or something like that) which is the total ratio once you factor in boost and piston compression.
In other words:
NA Car runs 11.5:1 pistons and the total CR is 11.5:1. Turbo car runs 9:1 pistons and 15 psi and the total CR is the same as the aforementioned NA car. (Numbers aren't exact, they're just made up examples).

Yeah the GTS is 11.5:1 so with stock internals you can run ~6psi before having to beef em up(replace with lower compression pistons).
GT is 10:1 so you can run more boost...(not sure how much you guys run)
So you CAN turbo a high compression engine but you just can't run as much boost...

on the C2 kit, for the GTS it looks like the filter is located where it would be if you have a CAI . Why is that ?

Someone who has the kit correct me if i'm wrong...
I think it's there and curves back down to the turbo because there is actually pretty decent airflow at that location because of that upper grill on the celi's.

I would be scared , a turbo that cost me over 3Gs and its filter is that low... it would make me nervous.

Wow, a kid who claims to know about cars and doesn't think compression has anything to do with a turbo OBVIOUSLY doesn't know what a turbos purpose is, boost more air into cylinder so you can add more fuel = more compression = more power. Why does a turbo car take premium gas? Because the compression gets so high it might prematurely ignite regular fuel. do that to a car with naturally high compression and you got yourself some problems. Compression ratio (CR) ---> what they said above. There is another "compression" that refers to "cylinder compression" The value (normally in psi) is obtained by performing "compression check" It indicates how healthy of the cylinder, piston ring, and how much carbon built up in the cylinder. Different engines (turbo or not) have different acceptable ranges. This compression value has nothing to do with the turbo and very useful when buying a used engine or used car.
