I already got 17"s. The entire wheel size is the exact same as the factory wheels - so, it wont slow down my acceleration, and wont be harder on my brakes - however, if you get the correct 18" wheel tire combination, can you still maintain the over all factory wheel size? and if you can't does the extra inch or so worth of wheel make a big difference to braking/acceleration?
your thaughts please...

Hey I just got 18"s on my car wheel size exactly as factory wheels and I don't feel much. Except it felt a little heavier taking off and I quess I can feel more bumps but thats because there is less tire. I think what might affect it a little is the abs other then that your good to go.

i just got some tires 225/40/18 for 18" rims(rims arent here yet) and i put them up next to my gts rims 205/50/16 and the 18", and theres barely a difference between the two (i know thats not a very accurate comparison, but it gives me an idea). it would also depend on the type/weight of the rim you get (e.g. an 18lb 18" rim vs. a 25lb 18" rim). i was going to get 18" falken torque 5's (24lbs each ) but decided to get 18" 5zigen fno1r-c's (18lbs each ). dont know the dif between cast and forged though...i think forged wheels are lighter but im not sure...

just make sure the weight and the overall size are the same ( or very close) more weight = more rotational mass = harder to stop. 7 lbs a wheel might not be much but remember you have 4 of em.

no matter what it will slow you down. any 18" wheel will weigh more than the stock 16" wheels on the celica. Furthermore, just beacause it is the same overal size doesn't meen jack. Take physics! With 18" wheels it puts more of the weight on the outside of the wheels. More weight on the outside takes more work to spin then if it were in the inside of the wheel. I tried to explain that in the simplest terms possible...

wut do you mean by it? how can a 17" wheel be the same size as the 16? can you gimme an example? i got 17" chrome and damn that thing slows me down like crazy, i had another gts with 15" and that thing flew.

wut do you mean by it? how can a 17" wheel be the same size as the 16? can you gimme an example? i got 17" chrome and damn that thing slows me down like crazy, i had another gts with 15" and that thing flew. you take into account the 17 inch wheel with a 35 series or 40 series profile or a 16 inch with a 45 or 50 series sidewall and it is about the same overall diameter... 18's will slow down your car 0-60, because of weight and size... if you get some forged lightweight rims it wont be as noticeable...

BTW i have an extra factory 16" GTS wheel...i just weighed it and on my scale i got 18.0lbs. When i was looking around at some forged 18" i found some that were ~18lbs...so i'm thinking maybe with a lower profile tire, the tire itself would weigh less...assuming you can keep the overall outside diameter the same as stock...

Yeah, I knew that to - thats part of the reason I chose the wheels I did - because they have less material on the outside edge of the wheel, and that means less rotating mass..

18 or 19" tires on a new celica are old school, a waste of money unless you have money, and no matter how you justify it won't perform better than a 16 or 17" wheel and tire combo and that same 16 or 17 wheel and tire combo can not only get you better results for drag/track, but will cost you less/and weigh less for better tires and wheels. This is including the looking good factor also. The only 18's or above I can think of to prove me wrong are the Volk's TE/37 in magnesium blue that I would never race in anyways.

it depends on what rims you get. some are lighter then others. you can do a search for wheel weights to determine the weight of the wheels your looking at. you can also get lightweight lug nuts to help offset the increase in weight.
