Its been a long while since i done some mods to my car so i'm pretty excited to have this piggy back ECU coming in. i'm getting it in 4 days so thats good. I've learned a lot about it but theres still so much more i need to know. I haven't had a chance to look over the instructions yet so i don't know how hard of an install it is yet. Anyone with ECU knowledge want to help? it comes preprogramed with MWR maps for I/H/E, i have I/E only, think it'll hurt if i try it on? I'm expecting to feel some small but significant gain from this mod, ECU tunign is really new to me. I'll try to keep everyone informed cause i know a lot of you guys out there are interested in this.

I'm actually considering this as well... it's a great bang for your buck compared to the PowerFC and if you get it tuned to your exact setup (mine will be HS header, AEM ccai, and TRD exhaust) then this will be the most noticeable performance mod you've done yet...

LOL

i don't think i'll get huge numbers, I'm just hoping for a faster exit from corners. like a small boost in power at lower rpm or more power at max torque.

okay so far i've learned that there are 12 ignition harness wires supplied with the greddy e-manage. Now our cars (4 cylinders) usually use a lot less than the twelve wires provided, so depending on how many your car needs according to the manual you can use the extra to create an injection harness by some crimping and soldering.

so hopefully when i get the unit i can hook it up using what i know and be able to alter both the ignition specs and injection specs, what i don't know is if Monky Wrench Racing (who programmed the unit) put the correct maps on it so that the injection harness will be put to use, since it only came with the ignition harness with the package.

I def. suggest this unit. There is one thing is important, never tune the ignition timing on running engine. It can couse coil mailfunction. No other complains.

i dont have the software or cable. I know you sell it for like 100 bux right? i may order it in the near future. But i'm having a hell of a time trying to install it

I recently got the unit and i looked at the ECU and the wiring, where can i tap into the wiring? Is it possible to trace the wiring from the ECU back to the inside of the car? do you have an install guide with pics? thanks c2gas.

There is no piggyback ECU that is comparable to the power fc for the celica right now. Standalone ecu's can control much more aspects of the engine and will make you gain more hp. If you dont have some sort of FI or heavy engine modification, a pigyback ECU isnt worht it. I doubt it will take off more than 1 second off of his lap times.

sorry i haven't hooked the damn thing up yet. so far i've studied and understand the wiring diagrams very well. the only thing is that the stock wiring harness is so tightly wound together that i can't find a point to separate and splice the wires. one that bothers me is that one wire is the MAF wire which i have to intercept before it gets to the ECU, then rewire it from the MAF sensor to e-manage, from e-manage to ecu. then i have to find a hole in the firewall to send wires through. damn hard if you ask me.

Alright i finally installed it today. I'm tired as hell, the whole thing took me almost 7 hrs. but i'm pretty proud of myself for the doing all the wiring myself and everything.

I turned on the car and i was so glad it didn't blow up. after a long warm up i took it out on the freeway and it doesn't perform much diiferent from before, but (this may be in my head) it has more torque and first and second gear, and there just a hint more torque at the beginning of each gear change(basically more torque an lower RPM)

I thought about a before and after dyno but I knew i'd only gain a few horses, if that, anyway so it really is not worth a dyno.

that's with a preset tuning map, right? perhaps if you got it tuned specifically for your setup you could crank out a few more...I think it would've been nice to see a dyno.

actually i shouldn't have made that review so soon. Today I drove the car to long beach and MAN!! it more responsive and theres a much wider power band. its actually very nice. I'm extremely happy with the results, I'm sure that fine tuning it will be even better.

Can't wait to try it with my straight pipe exhuast.

i don't think there are any stand alone ECU for '04 right now. best thing you can do is piggy back. but since you can't alter LIFT points is not worth it.

Does the E-manage come preprogramed for the GTS as well? I only see it for 1ZZ on the website.

MWR would be the guys to ask. Ask them if they would wire it up to a GTS and tune THAT GTS, if they haven't done it before.
