My g/f just bought insurance for her 1988 Honda civic lx which cost her $499.12 every 6 months!!! This is freaking ridiculous especially when the car itself is not even worth $500. Shes only 18 years old so I guess thats why. What do you guys think???

That's not NEAR enough info.

What are her liability limits? What are her deductibles for comp & collision, if she has the coverages?

50-75% of the cost of insurance for those age 18-25 is the premium for liability coverage, which isn't effected by the car whatsoever.

Factors that matter:

years driving (not age)
gender
yearly mileage
number of household vehicles
driving record
car
coverage
grades
other household policies with company

Is she on herparents plan or on her own plan? It's really not too bad given the price, but granted it's an 88, that's pretty lousy. Look into it, I'm no insurance expert, but price like that isn't too outta the blue.

Actually, for her age, its not so bad. You might be able to better, but I don't know if it would be worth all the effort to shop around.

Not with any of the major companies... and not with any of the smaller ones I know of.

If you get lowjack installed, it'll go down $80, this doesn't really help but $80 is $80 wink

Same here...

I have good grades, so I get a little discount. I have a clean record. Its only that high for me b/c the other cars im insured on.

And I have never heard of an insurance company charging more b/c the color of your car.
