Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior custom body kit work?

ok, so some of you have probably already read about the body kit i got that doesn't fit at all. well now i decided i should just see if i cant do it myself (unless of course someone else wants to buy it and do the same). Only probably is i dont know what i need to do and what materials i would need. I fully understand that this may take a considerable amount of time and money but thats ok. any suggestions or advice would be great!


FYI - the kit has gaps at the bottom of the headlgihts, not enough gap at the hood, and doesn't wrap around enough to meet the edges of the front fenders. and thats just the front bumper...

sounds like a job for the professionals to me... by the way, what kit is it?

i have gone this rt before on my cavalier and it is not worth your time find a way to get rid of it or you will be sorry

its VS style kit. doesn't look like it would take too much work really. but i agree... getting rid of it would be much easier and i definately open to selling it to anyone who wants it.

so does anyone know what i would need? the fiberglass resin and hardner? lots of rags/towels?

umm you'll need...

- fiber class cloth not mat
- Bondo bodyfiller
- fiberglass resin
- tons of sand paper (walmart sells a good variety pack)
- popcicle sticks(for mixing)
- vinyl gloves
- face mask(the best one)*recommended*
- dremel "optional"
- creativity and lots of patience

This is what I think you'll need, I may come up w/ something later, but if you do buy this stuff just think to yourself how you can apply the bodyfiller/fiberglass on. The key is creativity. FIberglass and this stuff is very versitle on the way you can use and apply it. practice on something small(not on your car) Its not as hard as people say. just do some research in the forums. my 1st project was my center console. It took a lot of sandiing

thanx guys, i think i'm gonna try a practice piece then give it a try on my Christmas vacation. any suggestions for a practice piece?

and where should i be able to find this stuff? AutoZone? HomeDepot? Wal-Mart?

also.. what would i use to fill in the gaps or what woul di use as a base for the fiberglass? would i just sand the parts without enough gap?

is that what i would use the bondo for? it wouldn't be too heavy?

How about styrofoam? A big chunk you could work with. Like the blue insulation foam board stuff. Just an idea.

just get rid of it, I bought a knock-off and it if like shit but after 2k in body work it fits better then the real thing.

you figure fir the real thing installed, and painted your looking at about 1500 and to have the fake fit your looking at at least 1500 just to get it to fit. its not worth it in the long run

even if i did it myself? i know the body shop would charge me crazy cash... but thats mostly labor right?
