I personally think the 3zz method is overrated.

If people put the kinda time, money and effort into the stock 2zz that they would trying to get a 3zz setup they might be amazed at the outcome wink

everyone bitches about the power output of the 2zz but nobody gets off their ass and actually tries to make power. I'm very optimistic that this year will proove to shed some new light on the 2zz and its power capabilities. thumbsup

matt's explanation of where the 3zz comes from only tells me that its from Japan. of course.

but what vehicle does it come from? M-Sport?

It's a stroked engine. Trial makes a 3zz stroker motor. It's basically a 2zz block with a 1zz crank. Then you have the longer stroke of a 1zz and the bore of a 2zz. It also ups the compression to around 13:1.

wouldnt boring out the 1zz be better then using the 2zz's bore!

so if a 1zz already has a nice size stroke, then why make a stroker kit for it??

trial makes the stroker kit. As for the actual car the engine comes from, any non US spec celica GTS or non US spec Corolla. I know, I said Corolla.

I thought you were asking where it was from because you were making the "why would you import the engine" point.

Boring out the 1zz is essentially the same as using the 2zz bore. You would be boring it out to the same bore as the 2zz. The disadvantage is you wouldnt have the head of the 2zz.

I think the 2zz does have a lot of potential in it, that's why personally I don't really see any need to swap it out until it shits the bed. Look at it this way, toyota engines are MADE to last a long time same with the cars themselves. 15 or so years from now when your celica engine is starting to shit out, it will be cheaper and more fun to swap the engine and do some body work to it instead of buying a new car. Which is what I plan to do. thumbsup
