hello,
x-mas is coming and im going to try and update my system in my 2000 celica GT... currently im running a pioneer 7400 face with stock speakers,600 watt xtant 604x amplifier and 2 10inch. JL w6 subwoofers(not the v2, original stopped making them) im looking to keep this amplifier because it has a very clear sound to it and plays all type of music great! i was looking to get either 1 13inch JL w7 subwoofer or 2 10inch alpine type-r subs, and i want to change my back, front door speakers and tweeters...id like to run this all off of the xtant 600 watt amp.. which setup do you think would be best..ALSO i listen to all kinds of music so im going for clarity and crispness i like clean crisp hits, hi's lows..examples of music id listen to rap(jay-z,rock-stones-dance music i listen to it all green day etc.. what would you guys recommend in the way of speakers for the door and back and tweeters? im looking to spend maybe 400 tops on the speakers(for the door and rear and tweeter) then i wanted the jl w7 13inch sub i think itd hit harder then the 2 alpines!

Welcome to ECelica wingnut980. First post huh?
Sounds like you got a good system going. Boston Acoustic, MB Quart, Polk or Blaupunkt all make good component sets.

and trust me a 10w7 is all you need a 13w7 is overboard and your most likely wont ever use it to its full potential.

Mp3Supply,
That is some nice stuff you have there. Where were you before I waisted 7 grand on the system I have now?

wingnut980,
If you go with any of the component sets I mentioned, you can't go wrong. I would say get the top of the line sets they have. I have waisted a lot of money by getting the cheapest stuff I could find, then blowing the speakers within a year.
So now I have 2 Boston Acoustic component sets that I paid $1,500 for. Recommended by a guy who has been into sound off competitions for the past 15 years.

HELLO,
i posted a few days ago on ideas for what kind of system to upgrade to for xmas thank you for all of your help and replies.. here's what i was leaning toward, currently im stock speakers, xtant 600 watt 604x amplifier,2,10 inch jlw6 subwoofers(not v2's)its loud but im looking to make it louder and clearer..heres what i was going to buy let me know your thoughts: thanks

Polk Audio db6500 6.5" component speakers for the front doors and rear seats
and i found instead of the JL w7 which i have not enough money for id like to use either the:
3 10" MTX Thunder4500 subwoofers in a box made by crutchfield it's 400$ or
1 10" Kicker solo-baric L7 subwoofer(vented enclosure) also from crutchfield 450$
this will all be run off of my xtant 604x 600 watt amplifier im also going to get a capacitator which would you guys recommend..WHICH SUBS WOULD MAKE THIS SYSTEM SOUND THE BEST, I LISTEN TO ALL KIND OF MUSIC(ROCK,RAP,DANCE,ETC.) IM LOOKING FOR A CLEAN HITTING AND CLEAR SOUND..ALSO I WILL DYNOMAT THE WHOLE TRUNK!
THANKS LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS

I didn't mean you had to ask it again, I just meant that we will keep talking to you on just the one topic and there was no need to start another.
Anyway, wish I could help, but I don't know much about those amps or subs. Somebody will come on here and answer you if they know though.

i currently have a polk audio db6500 components for the front stage and i've never had any complaints.i know there are better stuff out there but so far, the set has been meeting my expectations.

about the subs, IMO, i'll go with the solobarics. i'll take kicker over mtx anytime. i have a pair or compvr's and they provide the bass i need! thumbsup

one more thing, a lot of guys in the business has been recommending not to put components for both front and back. you want your sound stage coming from the front and not from the back. what car audio enthusiasts recommend is a rear fill set-up. thumbsup

well, that's the kind of set up i have now and i'm lovin' it! rice

thank you for the replies, do you think a 12inch kicker solo baric would be enough to pound? right now i have 2 jl w6(not v2) and they r loud so will this kicker sound better than those by a big difference because its going to cost me mad money..also what speakers would you put in the rear speakers id like to stick with something of good clarity and quality but around the 150-200 range for the rears,,,any thing good for the rear from polk audio? lemme know thanks

If you got the money, try some Focal subwoofers man...honestly these subs kick ass!!! I think they're better than JL by far. Very crisp and clear bass providing you have proper power, and since you have an xtant 600W (I have a xtant 300W) it'll sound awesome man!

wingnut980,
drjongski made a good point. Don't waist your money for speakers in the back seat. You will never hear them if you have a nice loud component set on the front doors. Trust me. Been there, done that.
One more thing about your choice of sub box. A ported box will be huge and take up way too much space. Plus I just don't think they sound good.
Go listen to the differnce between a sealed box and a ported box. IMO a sealed box sounds better, weighs less, which won't slow your car down too much and takes up less space.
Do you believe me or no?

Risa,
That is one awesome system you have there. I have to know, just how good do the Boston Acoustics sound? I bought 2 Boston Acoustic z series component sets with 2 Zapco 3.0 amps to power them. Both set's will be molded to the doors and 1 18" Treo sub will be powered by a 9.0 Zapco amp. Can't wait to hear it.

your 12w7 is underpowered with that amp - you should have considering purchasing the 1000/1

Cool. I'm sure you could double the power on those too, but like you said, keeps them safe and lasting forever.
Somebody said that if you under power a sub, it will mess it up after time. Not sure if that's true.

hey you guys. i just got some infiniti 6x9's for the rear (i think the number is 9603i), they r 3-way, and i got infiniti 1" tweeters for the front (i think the number is 1001t). The guy at the shop said they r top of the line stuff, would you guys say the same thing about em? i mean i still got stock speakers running in the front, but those r gonna get swapped out in a week or two for some infiniti 6 1/2's. I also got a thousand watt amp in the back that is split, half of it is powering a sub i got in the trunk, and the other half is powering all the speakers in the car. is that a good idea, and y is it that my tweeters arent making any sound, they just make a kkkkshhhhhhh sound all the time. will putting in the front speakers fix the tweeter problem?

Tell us what kind of amp and sub it is. How is it set up? Who installed it? You might want to use the amp just for the sub and another amp for the mids.
Infinity is very good though.

ok the 6x9's r already put in the back. i just cut out the hole and made it big enough to fit them in. So thats not a prob. I had some stereo shop do the install on this amp. The amp is a 1000w magnavox i think. The sub is an alpine type S, i think.

ok. the amp says that it is a magnavox audio 1000w 4-channel amp. the number on it is MG-2553. The sub is an alpine type E 12". Ummm, im thinking that i shouldnt have the amp power any of the speakers. I think it would be better if it only powered the sub, since our stock stereos' volume can keep going up (it doesnt have a limit to the volume, like a max)

First thing you need to do is throw the magnavox amp in the trash. That is some shit you would get at Radio Shack.

As for subs...Good stuff. I'll let the guys who know more about this than I do handle this from here. I just wanted to tell you what we would need to know to help you better.

Let me know if nobody helps you on this and I'll find out what amp would go good with those subs.

Tell us how much you are willing to spend on your system and what kind of music you listen to. That will also help.

Me, I'm a bass head. The bass just can't be loud enough for me. I have $10,000 into my system and it puts out a little over 7000 watts, but that's just over-kill. You can build a good system for a few hundred.

80% rap. but theres also some rock, arabic, techno, and armenian music (violins and stuff). ummm, willing to spend, i guess about another 4 to 5 hundred bucks. because ive already spent too much on the stuff i got already.

Sorry slim, I said something that was not true when I told you your subs were good. I just checked on them and those things are junk. So it looks like you're going to have to start from scratch if you want a good system.

Can't tell you what kind of system you should get. All I can do is tell you the name of the brands that I think are the best. Then if you want, do some research on them and pick your favorite.

Starting with my favorite brand...

1. Zapco

2. Treo

3. JL Audio

4. PG

5. Alpine

6. JBL

7. MTX

8. Kicker

9. Rockford Fosgate

10. ?

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
