Hello,
So me and my g/f are looking for a used car. So far we are interested in two things, a used VW Golf or a Celica GT (O yeah, you know what I recommended).
But yeah, don't everyone say the Celica, we are trying to find options.
What do you think we should be looking for with a budget of 8-9K. This is going to be her car and she will be paying monthly for it, so something that is easy to maintain, reliable, and looking good of course.
So yeah, advice on...

There are some 6th Gen Celicas that go for less than $10,000 Maybe she'd like a convertible. or you can look for a Miata, like Josh suggested.

who wants a car with 165k miles... look for low mileage and owned by an old person and never wrecked... then you'll get a car in perfect mechanical shape because old people dont push their cars at all.

Chelica815, Give us a little more info on what shes looking for. My wife has been driving me nuts for a couple years now because she can't decide what car to get. It has to be a 4 door hatchback, good gas mileage, low miles and look good. She is torn between the Protege5, RAV4, Chevy Aveo and Scion XA. After driving the Scion, I begged her to get it. Very nice car. She said no because she don't like the gauges in the middle of the dash.

xAs are kinda cool, but he said they're limited to a budget of about 8-9k. They've been out for less than a year. Corolla? Mazda MX-3, or Protege?
You need to decide what size, type, etc, first I think (i.e. 4-door, compact, sub-compact, small SUV, etc).

If she doesn't need a backseat, you CANNOT go wrong with a Miata. I drove the one I had like a bumper car and it still loved me right back. Got up to 81k miles without EVER having a repair made on it.

Wow, thanks for the input guys. Was not able to jump online for much yesterday because of work till ass crack of night. And today I had a final so yeah.
But I spoke with the g/f some more and we cut down most of the cars.
She wants something that *looks nice, has to pass her looks taste, haha *good mpg *low milage used car, anything around 40K *not wanting to fix anything up in terms of rebuild motors and all of that crap. She said if she does fix it up she will prolly get rims, depending how janked the stock rims are. Only exterior mods basically. FUN FUN FUN, can do something cool with the g/f like checking out car parts. *4 door or 2 door, does not matter but it cannot be all cramped up like an RX7. A 2 door like the Celi is fine because folkers can fit behind. *around 10K *car must be known to be reliable, not like a Ford Focus for example with those bs recalls. *has to be an Auto
But yeah, her choices as of today are: Toyota Celica 2000+ GT VW Golf 99+ Acura Integra 97+
But what do you guys think about the VW Golf? She really seems interested in that car because it looks "cute" lol. How realiable is it? I do not know much about the VW especially the Golf, any inside?
Keep in mind that this is for a girl, if the car starts crapping out, you know how sad they'll get.
Reason why I am so amped about this is because her car right now is a CRV and there isn't mush that you can do to a CRV and I myself do not really like SUV or mini SUV. With some sort of a smaller car, I can actually purchase car stuff for her and I wouldn't mind driving it either.
Once again, I appreciate your help.
O yeah, if anyone knows of any good deals on a Celica GT Auto in the Bay Area, let me know.

O yeah, price/value/reliability is a huge issue because like stated, she will be paying it off, so it would suck for the car to keep breaking down. That is why I am concern about the Golf.
How are the Integras? Are they all pretty much the same? Any years to look for, any years to stay away from?
Also, there a crapload of Integras on Craigslist that states that they have a salvage title or they were once impounded and etc. what's up with those? Stay away or a good deal?

She used to like the 97 Prelude I believe, but she does not like the body style after closely examining one.

I would recomend against the golf. my friend has one and it has been in the shop quite a few times. don't get me wrong, it wasn't anything major but the cost of repair is pretty high on VWs. the GTi is pretty cool though

2000 and up Mitsubishi Eclipse. That is what my girlfriend is looking for around that price range and that was the only car that suited her and the price.
