I don't blame you for not wanting to touch the whole dent in Laub's roof thing. I can't believe that went on for so long on the NCCA forums. I wanted to come on there and yell at those people. They just didn't get it. An RX-7 roof has curves in it. Not dents.

Yes, I do want you to judge my car. I think you would be the only one who would really see and appreciate all that I have done to my Celica.

That must kill you to watch people take home all those Best Toyota and Best Celica trophies that you know could be yours. How do you do it? Judge I mean. That would drive me nuts. I need to compete.

You said that having a built engine and a custom turbo would almost max me on engine mods. What keeps somebody from just saying they have a built engine when there is no way you can prove he doesn't?

Is it true that you only need 3 screens to max out on video? If so, why do people fill their car with screens?

I was really hoping you would tell me that Mull can be beat. I won't be happy until I beat HIM, but it seems impossible because even if I did everything he did to his car, his is so damn original. Not sure how I could compete with that. I heard the only thing he doesn't max is undercarriage, but still scores high. Can't you give me any hope?

It's funny to read everybodies opinion of Pete's car on this site. Seems 99% of the people on here hate it. The only reason I don't like it is because I think the Celica would be a badass show car if it was still functional. I want to have have pictures of mine at the drag strip and racing in a circuit race. I want it to be a real race car and still look good enough to win best of show.
As a judge, would you appreciate a car like that more than one that only drives from the back of a trailer to the show floor?

People ask why I spend so much on a damn Celica. Even after I tell them that I want it to be the best show car ever built, they say "yeah, but you could buy a Viper with the money you have waisted on that thing".
I think that the Celica is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I hear it all the time from people, "Beautiful car man". I think that once it is customized to the same level as the cars that belong to Mull, Laub or Zamora, it will beat them when it comes to over-all appearance just because of it's beautiful lines.
Do you agree?

I Never said he CAN"T be Beat but it will take a show car of his caliber thumbsup He has every aspect of a show car and more. You just have to step up to the plate, for example Pete's Celica was a sign that people are ready to step up to the plate, it was just a shame that there were some flaws in Pete's car that cost him points.

Mull can be beat! thumbsup thumbsup

I always wonder what a judge thinks when he sees that I don't have any 2nd place trophies. Does he think "Man, I bet this guy thinks he's the shit because he has never been beat, I think I'll put him in his place and give him his first 2nd place trophy"?
Or does he realize that I am just proud of my trophies and want to show them off?

to be honest we (judges) don't really even look at the trophies/places when we are judging the car. We could care less what you placed at a different show or even one of our shows in the past. We jusge your car that day for what it is... No judge for the NCCA will say hey i am giving him 2nd place to be a dick. If you got second place then that is what we feel you deserved to get. thumbsup thumbsup

Is it true that you only need 3 screens to max out on video? If so, why do people fill their car with screens? there is 5 points for ice. so pretty much anything over 5 screens is over kill and will max you out depending on number of sources, install etc.

Do you agree? can't say yes to that has personal taste of a vehicle's looks don't make it win over another car, but if you ask me outside of judging, Yes the celica is one of the best looking cars

What i mean is, i am curently in the process of getting my Veilside FFGT put on my car, and turned into a custom widebody, along with some other goodies, its going to be a full widebody, not just flared fenders. But the question is, would you get more points for a kit that was turned into a widebody or flared fenders, where as the same kit with no widebody or flared fenders!

Thank you very much Jamey. Yes, I do know what you mean. Gotta give props to the trailer queens even if they never do see the road.
I was just hoping that a judge would see my car and think...
"Damn! Now that's a car I would like to have. This SOB actually races this thing AND drives it around town, but still looks as good as these trailer queens with their plexiglass steering wheels".
I heard that judges are looking for true performance cars these days and not just all show and no go. Not that the top cars right now aren't built, but it just seems like such a shame that they have all that money into the engine and never drive it.
I will always drive the hell out of my Celica and always try to make it faster each year. This has to make anybody say "Now THAT'S a nice car".
Right?

^^^^ I'm the same way eric...I wouldn't spend tons of money on a car if I weren't going to drive the thing all the time...in fact...last night my girlfriend and I went to this function...and instead of having to pay the $30 to get in, the guy let us both in because he said that he really liked my car...that's the reaction I'm looking for

Steve, you sure it was because of the way your car looked? Or could it have been because he liked the way your girlfriend looked?

Don't give me wrong i would love to see an everyday driven car win BOS and then the National Title, but the odds just are not with ya, but it can be done. Minho Kim's 350 is crazy, stage 3 supercharger, Veilside wideboady, 1 of 5 in the states, veiside wheels0 one set in the states, but he still drives his, hell he even drifts his eek eek

The thing to keep in mind is you bould your car for yourself and no one else, you don't build it to win shows or put a MOD on your car just to get a couple of points. You MOD it for yourself thumbsup

Anything Custom is better then a bolt on store bought anything!!! thumbsup and then taking a rare kit per say and modding it even more is even that much better. thumbsup You would score higher then a regular produced widebody thumbsup

HAHAHA! Okay, I get it. I actually ask her to dress really sluty when she comes to the shows with me and she does. Seems my car get's a lot more attention that way.
But I think that's as far as she would go to help me win.

That's awesome, I didn't know Minho drifts his car. Now that's crazy. One slip and you're in the wall. No thanks.

I do build my car for myself. If HIN told me I need bright pink wheels to win BOS, I would tell them where to stick their pink wheels.
Now things like my shaved door handles looks okay, but not something I really had to have. Just did it for points.

My car is not a daily driver. I just drive the hell out of it sometimes.

See...my celica is my daily driver...I've gotten a couple of looks from the NOPI crew (I live in Atlanta..home of the NOPI NATS) asking about my hood (custom) and my graphics (custom animation, not flames or tribal like everyone else)...I was thinking about entering the conservative category...being as I don't have a kit or anything...question jamey...some people are putting together cars with roof scoops now...ever seen a nice car with a full carbon fiber roof scoop???? If I get kitted I'm gonna probably go this route

Sounds cool Steve. What would you run the air from the roof scoop to? Rear brakes?

Jamey,
About having overall finals at the end of the year. I'm guessing that this has never been done before and it would be the biggest import car show ever held. I'm sure people would come from all over the states to see this final showdown between all the guys that have been grandfathered. I know I will make the trip to see it, no matter where it's held.
I'm sure you can't tell me how much price money there might be, but I'm guessing it would be more than the usual $1,500 that they give at most shows?
Any idea where they would hold a show this big?
Do you have to be one of the guys that have been grandfathered to win the finals?

^^^ The finals were basically help at Alantic City this year. The overall pot i am not sure of wht the price was but i know it was over $15,000.00, but that all doesn't go to the winner, you will win money for being the best team overall, best Toyota overall etc. etc.

Let me see if i can get the finalist list and will let you know.

Now you don't have to be a person that was grandfathered in to win the finals. Not sure exactly how that is going to work just as of yet. When i know more you will know more. thumbsup

Never seen one personally i'd say go for it, but do you have a sunroof on your celi, if so you are going to have to get that "shaved" and then put the roof scope in, might be more hassel then what it is worth confused confused

Don't think to many people are going to take a $2000 kit and cut it all up and go thru the amount of work you are going to have to go through to get that to look bad ass. So i think you have some time before people start jumping on this idea rofl rofl

^^^lmao...I thin kthe point of this whole thread is that the judges want to see original things done...they see a lot of cars...and a lot of people will have a lot of the same things...even if its a nice car...think about how many NSX show cars are Comptech supercharged...every show NSX that is serious has that mod...I saw 6 of them at the nopi nats...originality is key

$15,000.00?!!!!!! That's awesome. Not that I do this hobby for the money or anything. I would still enter every show I could make it to even if there was no prize money.
You're not going to believe this, but I think I'm out of questions.

i know my car won't win any awards (planning to take it to HIN next summer), but do judges and other people like to see an up-and-coming car with not many mods and not very original? hmm... i bet sleepers are pretty original at the shows, will that net any points? (just messin there)

Changed my mind. I do have a few more questions. You said that some judges will ask us to tell them about our car, but I would think that if I say "Oh, okay, well it's a 2002 Toyota Celica and I have a custom turbo kit with a Precision T3/T4 sc 32 turbo, custom down pipe, 440cc injectors, Greddy E-Manage piggy back ECU, High Flow intercooler, Walbro 225 fuel pump, HKS BOV, 3" pipe from header back, Apexi N1 exhaust, chrome engine cover, custom intake manifold (chromed), painted engine plastics, 65 shot of N2O, two NX bottles, two NX remote bottle openers, RPS clutch, Fidanza flywheel, polished surface of entire engine, APR GT300 widebody kit molded on, APR canards, APR wind splitter, APR Carbon Fiber mirrors, TRD wing, Sparco gas lid, window tint, BRS Carbon Fiber hood, black Racing Hart CR wheels 19X8.5, Stoptech BBK, TRD coilovers, Tanabe strut bar, Hotchkis sway bars, Hotchkis camber links, 7000 watt sound system consisting of an 18" Treo sub in molded fiberglass box, Zapco 9.0 amp, two Zapco 3.0 amps, two Boston Acoustic component sets, two SPL caps, two Red Top batteries mounted in molded fiberglass in trunk, PS2 molded in dash, Acoustic DVD player, Kenwood head unit, three 7" screens, chrome 4 point roll bar, chrome bars to hold amps and polished NX bottles, Greddy boost controller and turbo timer, boost, N2O and EGT gauges, Momo steering wheel, black Corbeau A4 seats, black Corbeau 4 point harnesses, Sparco pedal covers, painted dash and all interior plastics, TRD shift knob, 13 interior neon light, under body neon lights and painted or polished undercarriage.
Plans for next year will be a racing engine from MWR, more body mods, custom paint, chrome undercarriage and more engine chrome."
I would think that if I say all that, he would either fall asleep or say "No shit, I can see all that stuff, tell me something I don't know".
So...What all should I tell him about?

No you write that all down on your mod sheet or if you have a panel or display with your MODS. What you tell us is the little stuff that we won't see/know. Like your turbo, tell them that it is custom you can't buy this in a store, little stuff like that that you think we might miss/don't know about thumbsup thumbsup

Thanks Steve, but I'm sure a judge doesn't want to here about me being in a war or even cares how I built the car. He would probably think I was trying to get his sympathy.

Couple more...This is how my car will look when it comes out of the shop in a couple months.
I think it looks good solid red. Do I really need a wild paint job to score high? Just how many points will I lose because it's just red?

Well you would get a 0 out of 5 for originality but as long as there is no orange peel or paint swirls that is about all you would lose thumbsup

eric...maybe you could get some sort of custom vinyl...if you want, I would design a custom animation or something for you...or could at least suggest some...at the Nopi Nationals this year the vinyl I saw was mainly flames, or some sort of tribal markings (like the original apr-GT 300 celica) I've gotten tons of comments on how original my vinyl is...or you could just be one of the cars with air-brushings...which is a completely different league of cash...
