Celica Forums General Discussion Engine and Performance New Tire or Plug This one?

My tire has had a slow leak for weeks now. Every 4 days or so I had to Re-fill it with air.. Well I finally got around to examining it and here's the problem.

not one but two pices of metal in the tire. Im not sure if I wana just get it plugged or if I would need to replace the tire... What do U think?

the tires are low...just burn the hell out of them until they're totally gone, and then go buy new tires

I don't think you can even plug that... the puncture looks pretty long. I'd say just get new tires!

id try to get it plugged. then when you have the extra money, get one (or two) new tires and keep the plugged one as a backup. i had one of my yoko p'specs plugged like 5 months ago and then the other day i had a slash in the sidewall on anothe r tire. ended up getting two new tires and keeping the 5month plug as a back up.

umm from the look of the pics, your tire looks pretty low. I would say buy a new tire.

What kind of tire is that? Looks like a Potenza.

i cant tell much by lookin at them.
u cant really plug tires that are low profile, but i cant tell how low ur tires are.
u can plug any nail safely if its in the middle of the tire.
or else you can have it patched, im sure its gonna cost you more

O.K. now this is the new thing... I went to SEARS Auto to get tha tire sealed (Plugged).. The problem is, THE FUCKERZ that put the tires on for me, put the lugs on soo tight that we can't get um off. I MEAN THEY ARE TIGHT... The lug is starting to strip. SEARS just sent me on my way, they couldn't do nothin 4 me.. They say they seal it from the inside so without getting the tire of they can't do anything for me. HOW DO I GET THIS SHIT OFF NOW. Someone said WD40.

Sears Auto tried that... I was there when they did it.. They tried everything . It won't budge.. U thing I can just seal the leak with some fix-a-flat? If so, what kind should I use. Its just temp... Any Ideas?

my tire s are 225/35. the hole was close to the center of the tire and i had no problem getting it patched AND plugged.

...as for ideas; next time dont go to sears to get a tire patched. find a pole that will fit onto your socket wrench... get two of your biggest friends to 'monkey' it down.

Fix a Flat is only a temporary fix. It's intended to get you safely to a tire shop to get the tire fixed correctly. Since SEARS can't get the tire off to repair it I'd have them buy you a new tire.

First off, never go to Sear my ass off. That was your first mistake and hopefully your last. That tire can be plugged no problem, but don't plan on any racing or extended racing because the plug will give or that crap tire.
I have had put plugs in worse places and much worse circumstances. A plug there will be fine. Fix a flat is crap. I fix a fu*ked many tires. It will last until you get a replacement and that was for junker cars or you will have to fill that tire up periodically with air and fix a junk. I fixed my Celica once, but once and that tire blew and I plugged it after 2 miles of driving. Got me to the shop and the tear was 5X as bad.

Your need new tires all around. I know money is hard, but driving a Celica you have to pay. That's just how it goes. The pict of that tire is a shame. You should have replaced them a while ago.

use a metal pipe atleast 3 feet long.. and stick the wrench inside the hole make sure the socket is strong tho.. and try to open it.. work for me

Well I got some good news and some bad news for you. First off who ever put those wheels on prolly didn't use an anti sieze compound on the threads and thats the source of your problem.


Option one is to find a "good" tire shop that has a set of wheel lock removers that will spin them lugs off.


The bad news is if you cant go with option one your going to have to either get the studs broken off or worse burned off and out with a cutting torch. I had this done last year on one of my wheels and yes it pretty much destroyed the wheel.

or if you have a friend with a welder jsut weld on a socket over the bolt that is just big enough there ya go now go back and get that breaker bar

with out a welder you can try and hammer the socket on but watch your fingers

WD 40 first and if doesnt work.. go back and talk to the manager.

Well, I broke the stud off the stripped lug and now I can go from there. I wonder how many lugs are stuck on... Thats the second one that I found. Now I can at least fix the tire. Thanks fellaz for all ya help..

^^ Get some anti sieze on them threads when you put them back on man or its just gonna happen again.

sears sucks.. just got my oil changed there cause it's cold and i'm lazy, but it took them 1 hour to get me in and 2 hours to actually do the job. I could do it in my driveway in 20 - 30 minutes. I was 10 minutes late for work .

I totally agree w/that dude.. I was there as soon as they were open, so I was the only customer there. It took them about 30 mins to drive my car into the garodge. and after the car sat there for about another 3o mins someone finally came in to ask me, "which tire are we sappose to be fixin?", fuckin ass whole. Then after 1hr, they detirmine that they can't get the lug off. and send me on my way. No more sears for me...

This is the thing about my tires, Ok, they are all fucked up because my car is lowered. I bought the front cambers about a year ago I just never had tha time to get um put on. There is this one shop in Oklahoma that does a super job on everything that they do, so I have been planning to take it to them to work on it. Well I noticed that the tires are getting worse by the min, so I went to PepBoys to have them install the cambers, well, the guy goes to all of his co-workers to find out if they know how to install camber kits... No one knew so he comes back to me and says, "I don't think they make cambers for your car." WTF! Im standing there in front of him with the cambers in my FUCKIN hand, and he's gone tell me that they don't make um... "I'll wait untilI get back to Oklahoma in January to get my Cambers put on."

Its like a grease and it comes in a tube or in a can and you can get it pretty much anywhere.
