I know that the celica manual said to use the 10/30 motor oil but my question is can I also use the 5/30 motor oil? Would that be a problem. I purchased it by mistake and I don't know if I can return it. Would you recommend it? If it does harm to it I would just take the lost and purchase the 10/30.
Thanks,

Dude, re-read the manual. It recommends 5W-30. Are you changing it for the first time?

Yeah, I just got the car not too long ago and this is my first oil change. I thought the manual said 10/30. This is even better. Thanks, appreciate it.

Keep it at 5w-30 regular until 60,000 miles. Then throw some 10w-30 synthetic in there so the engine's heat won't break the oil down any faster than it is.

yep...use 5w-30.
Do yourself a favor and get good oil. I'd highly recommend Amsoil Series 2000. While your at it, go ahead and change the tranny lube with some Amsoil Severe Gear lube.

Wow, I am currently at 56k miles, I guess I should be switching to 10/30 pretty soon. I never used amsoil oils before but thanks for the advice. I'll have this car tune pretty soon. I think I'll take it to the dealer for a complete tune-up. I think I'll have them check on the timing belt also. I think I am going to put some synthetic on that car. I really like this car and I think I am going to take care of it. Thanks.

^^ it should work fine. just let your car warm up a couple of minutes before driving it off (i.e. don't turn it on and back out of the driveway).
5w-30 is made for small dispacement engiens because it's able to heat up really fast without much trouble and get flowing.
the 'thicker' the oil the more energy it takes to heat it up and therefore it won't flow as as freely as fast.

In that case, I think I should stick with 5w-30 because I don't really warm up my car that long. I think I'll look for a synthetic with that. How long (miles) can I drive with synthetic before changing oils because I know they last longer than conventional. I do a lot of long distant driving.

^^ about 5,000 miles for our engines. you can do about 4,000 with conventional (as an average of all autos..3,000 miles is the norm)

what about 15w-30 moible 1 oil full synthetic? is that good ehhhhh...its made for bigger engines, and engines that will see a lot of heat...you may be talking about their 15W-50...and in that case...you won't really need it unless you are racing the hell out of your engine all the time...because that's what its for...its thicker in viscosity and is better for very high heat application...like when you are in the upper rpm range all the time...such as a road racing track

It still didn't leak or use oil.

OK, I'll stick with 5w-30 until my car start leaking oil and than I'll go with 10w-30. I had some 10w-40 left over from my previous car. Can I use that for the Celica. What's the difference between the 10w-30 vs 10w-40? Is it a good idea to switch from 5w-30 to 10w-30 and back between oil change. Thanks.
