Ok, so now my hatch seems to rattle. It's really only noticeable on the really beat up roads, which is very nearly all of them around here in VA. I'm not sure what I can do to fix it. I thought about maybe putting some thin tape wrapped around the metal "ring" that the hatch locks to to soften the impacts. Second, I thought maybe the shocks that support the hatch are bad. If they were up to par, then they would have enough power behind them to prevent the hatch from rattling. I'm just not ready to spend $250 on a new set since I just dropped 2 large on some mods (pictures later). What can I do?

Sure its your hatch? Cause for me its that little trunk cover thing.. that you can take off. Try removing that piece and see if you still hear the rattle. If you dont, then problem solved thumbsup If you still hear it then I dont know what to say. thumbsdown

There should be something on the installs about that, or else I read about it elsewhere in the forum. I'm pretty sure the answer is out there, check it out and good luck

Its the rubber guide blocks on the sides of the hatch and also on the car where the blocks meet.

They go bad every year or so.

I agree, check that first. I started hearing rattling a while back, thought my spoiler was loose, but it turns out its that stupid trunk cover. People have suggested to place adhesive velcro along the edges (where the trunk cover rests) so its not banging against the plastic trunk walls. I haven't tried this yet, too lazy.

Mine only rattles going over railroads, which is every day, or bad roads, which is every day. I got used to it grin

or maybe it wasn't velcro, but adhesive FELT? Just something adhesive that will prevent the cover from moving up and down.

My old Saturn had quite a few interior rattles too. One of the worst was the wires under the dash rattling againt the dash plastic.

Just get a louder stereo. wink

Theres actually a combination of things that make noise back there.

First is the obvious plastic lid

Second is the rubber blocks mounted to the car that mesh with corrisponding plastic blocks on the hatch itself over time they get squashed and allow the hatch side to side movement (if you can find the hatch support shocks you can find these grin .

Third is the rubber hatchseal which over time gets squashed and will squeek and easily fixed with some silicone spray or even armor all.

Add all these together and it sounds like the damn back of the car is falling off tongue

my trunk cover rattles, it does it for roads, and to much bass. I just put a sweatshirt or something on it, and problem solved.

Ok, so I played around back there with these pieces. If you're correct, and these are suppose to be rubber pieces, mine are hard as a rock, and Carbon Blue in color! I think it is from when the body shop repainted my rear end after my last accident. I should try to get them to pay for new pieces. But realistically, I'm going to need to order a new pair. Currently, I just took them off all together. So far so good, but we'll see at highway speeds on a jacked up interstate road.
