You put the transmission into M mode and then use the buttons on the steering wheel to shift up and down.

Read your car manual.

lol, i had the exact same prob when i first bought my car last year. it took me like 5 days to figure out that the front 2 buttons shift down like they say and i found the sticker that show where the button to shift up are when i took it to toyota to get it checked out. i thought that there was supposed to be an up and a down on the front. but the upshift is on the opposite side of the steering wheel directly behind the down shift buttons. just do what i did, look behind the steering wheel and they are clearly labeled up. ohh yea and like the others said, gotta have it in M mode for it to work. personally i used to drive my car a lot in M mode but i havent for the longest time, i feel that the car is much faster in drive, just to let you know.

Well now they are having a hard time moving the truck from where it is... so they might hit it again and make it an even 10 tonight.

LOL poor dude wink My moms 300m has a tiptronic type thing (sportshift) where you hit the shifter left and right for up and down. Its fun, esp becasue you dont have to shift down or mess with a clutch wink I never drove a manual before july wiht my new gts, but now when i get in a auto i keep trying to use my left foot smile

Wow, ya'll make it sound like the auto on a GTS is harder to drive than the manual, at least in "M" mode. I'd never own an auto, but now I'm curious, and wish I had just test driven an auto to see what it was like.

i have a sport shift gts.. and let me say its slow espeically on 1/4 mile.. i'd figure its like 1 second slower then a 6speed gts but nope its like 2 seconds slower... i hit a 17.2... maybe its because i have a broken tranny that makes this loud ass ticking noise every time i'm in reverse...but its not as bad once its been driven for a little bit like when everything gets all warmed up... but yea the manual mode is pretty much teh same as the auto.. at the tracks i hit the same time first using auto then manual mode... on free way its okay but it will never be good as manual... i'm probably gonna swap in a 6 speed in there once i get the money or once my tranny dies... oh i bought my gts used and i didn't kno about the ticking noise until a week later when i first put it in reverse when everythign was cold... But i pretty much stop trying to race with my car i just drive around... my car maybe slow but i think it looks cool... thumbsup

No I dont have a manual. I bet my trd shift knob threw you off happywink . I went to the track to compare everything after I got all my mods. Stock I did a 18.2 , with TRD exhaust I did consistent 17.5's, and with the TRD exhaust and AEM cai I did a 16.8. Mind you it is a lot easier to go down in time the higher the original time is. I am going to go back to the track with the sc in the spring when it opens again to compare the times with the SC time.

when i mess with the tiptronic, is seems that just letting it go in auto is actualyl faster then when i do the shifting. Redlines jsut fine by itself. waht the time 1/4mile for a stock gts 6-speed? havent taken mine out yet.

Isn't "automatic sports car" an oximoron??? One of the finest pleasures of driving a sports car is the joy of shifting gears. Why does anyone buy a sports car with a standard tranny???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

80 percent of the people who buy the high end ferraris and lamborghinis (too lazy to look up which ones) buy the automatic versions. Mind you it is paddle-shifting and is faster than the manuals.

Yeah but 80% of us can't afford LamBos or Ferraris. Therefore we buy mid-class sports car which don't have Paddle shifting.

Yes I have an automatic. Just because you think that you are cool because you drive a stick doesnt mean that everyone else shares that opinion. I have driven more sticks than automatics and dont share the same passion you do. If you get enjoyment out of boasting about how much better your stick is than automatics then have fun with that. I dont go around saying shit about other peoples cars just because I have the ability since a lot of cars dont have what I have. Why do you point me out just so you can hear that you car is soo much better?

before I bought my 2003 5 speed, i drove a 2003 automatic and found it to be very slow. I'm sure your auto gts will still beat me. sorry man, just jerking your chain no hard feelings...okay

You actually have a good point for the celicas since they have such low torque and the gap between the automatic and manual is one of the most for it. No hard feelings at all. cheers

The place I got them at doesnt have the picture of them anymore so I am not sure if they have them. When I got the rims I got them with wanli tires that are not that great for 1050 mounted balanced and shipped. This place http://www.wheelbuys.com/index_5zigen.html has them for 1099 with 205/40/17 kumho ecsta but if I had to do it again I would get the 215/45/17 falken ze-512 tires with the rims for 1199. imo it is worth spending the extra money for the better tires or at least the extra 50 for the kumho's in this case. 5x100 around a 35? offset. thumbsup

To clarify my earlier post I meant it to refer to the fact that he didnt know how to use manual mode. I would have thought he would have tried that out on the test drive.
