What do you guys have for snow tires and are you happy with them? I dont know what i want and asking for your advice and past experiences on what tires to get. Do snow tires really make that big of difference cause i have low profiles on now and i guess they get the job done but it hasn't snowed big here yet. Appreciate it.

You def. want snow tires if you have low profiles on there now. Are you keeping your rims on because that is not very good for the rims. If you still have your stockers use those. I myself am using all season tires on the stock rims.

"Blizzak LM-22 studless winter tires were developed to combine good snow and ice traction with European high-speed winter driving performance. Available in low profile, H-speed rated sizes; Blizzak LM-22 tires are for the drivers of high performance sport cars, sport coupes and sport sedans who require winter driving traction on dry, wet and snow-covered roads."

haha, yeah i got my rims still on there cause i dont have my stock. I left the same setup last winter and had some problems with it, but the rims turned out fine. I figure i'd be smart this winter and atleast buy tires. How much does a decent set cost? Where's a good place to buy? Thanx.

I have a set of Blizzaks on my stock rims, and they make a big difference. I highly recommend them. If you don't have your stock rims anymore, I would suggest buying a cheap set of steel 15" wheels for your snow tires. This will protect your aftermarket rims from the salt and sludge, and I also suspect mounting and remounting tires every season probably takes a toll on both the tires and rims.

What about noise? I have Yokahama as430s on the front & Dunlop sporta2 on the rears. I don't know it the noise is from the tires of lack of sound proofing. they are especially loud on bridges. Does anyone have advice for tires that are not too noisy but still have good grip. I drive expressways 120 miles a day.

You should go to:

http://www.tirerack.com/winter/wintertires.jsp

and shop around there, they rate all of the tires they sell for noise as well as the following:

Dry
Traction Wet
Traction Hydro
Resistance Snow
Traction Cornering
Stability Steering
Response Ride
Comfort Noise
Comfort Tread
Wear

And they have tons of customer reviews.

I just ordered the Michellin X-ice studless snow and ice tires for winter, I'm putting them on my stock rims. thumbsup

I was gonna get the Blizzak LM-22s, but they're sold out for the season. frown So I opted with the Michellins.

Snow tires make a huge difference, and I have to drive in it sometimes, so its really worth it, since all I have is the low pro/high performance tires. grin

I did the research about a year and a half ago. Nokians are the way to go. Everyone from WRX's, EVO's, Mercedes to Porsche's said they were the best. Search around and you will see it.
Regardless, any dedicated snow tire will be better than all-season or M&S tires.
The M&S label is deceiving. I have M&S tires on my car now and would never think of driving with them in the snow. Even slush or 2 inches of the white stuff. They are AA and A rated and have a treadwear of 280 with the M&S rating. Do you think I'm going to even risk driving in an inch of snow with those?
My snow tires, granted are not the best, will provide a better safe of mind and traction than any M&S or all season tires could ever do. That's just fact because I've been through one season with them and I know how I faired the others with stock and aftermarket tires.
What a difference.

According to the customer reviews on this site the Proxes 4's don't do well in the snow:

For what's it's worth I just put on a set of Goodyear Tripletread Assurance tires. I still have the original 15" rims so I didn't have to change anything out. I live in Wisconsin and we have had a pretty big snow storm, about a week ago, and the tires worked great, granted I wasn't driving like a maniac or anything, but they cut through the snow very well. On the occasions that it felt like the car was beginning to slide, i'd let off the gas and it would regain traction immediately! They are very quiet as well.

I have Yokohama AVS Winters... I have never had any problem with them... I haven't found a hill I can't go up in the snow. They also have great dry weather performance, they don't feel a lot more unresponsive then my 18 AVS Sports.

All I know is the Kelly Charger HPT's I bought recently really are way better in the snow than the factory tires. Still not a dedicated winter tire, but I get decent grip in the snow, and the treadwear is much improved.

The Assurance looked awesome, I almost bought a set of those instead. the tread is just insane!

I dont want winter tires because i'm going to be moving down south here shortly. I don't feel like spending the extra money on just winter tires. Has anyone bough from ebay? Would you pay more for a good product or ebay it.

I have Pirelli PZero Nero M&S. They are awesome in the snow, rain, and dry. They were cheap too (under 100/tire). Check them out on tire rack.

Remember everyone, a snow tire doesn't necessarily prevent initial slipping, just makes it easier to regain control. Our cars drive great in the snow with a decent tire. But yea, check out the pirellis I love em

I got stock 16' rim and just bought the BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires to replace OEM tires. They're very excellent for all season tires...very nice on snow and ice.
