I just recieved my tanabe pro ss type 2 complete kit ( yeah me! ). We took of the wheel but when we started looking for the two bolts to loosen they weren't there. It seems my shock absorber and support arm are in one piece!! ie not held together with bolts. The tanabe numberfor the kit is TSS036X. The vin of the car is ZZT231-0003729. The tanabe kit seems to be the same as the tein kit? Why is my car different?

holy crap i just realized something. Do you have the super strut suspension II (SSII) celica GTS? I think i read somewhere that those celicas have a slightly different, but better suspension set-up so theres less understeer at turn in. that might be the case.

I have a GTS and I have the Tanabe Pro SS coilovers. I DEFINATELY have bolts there. Is this front or rear you are talking about?

I guarantee that the SSII suspension isn't as good as the Tanabe suspension. I guess you could always cut and weld. I am sorry, but that just seems so wierd that they wouldn't use bolts.

I was Talking to James Nagashi in tanabe usa - he identified the car as a celica "elite" model, only released in japan, one of the first off the line, kinda lika a flagship model. I dont think theres many out there. Now heres the dilema, leave it stock or cut and weld. I bought the complete kit front and rear. I wonder will the rear ones fit? Heres some pics.

Problem solved. After doing a lot of research i have discovered i have a really rare celica. It has SSS Type III front suspension/axle setup. Super Strut Suspension and limited slip differential was special order only in Japan. There was a decal on the back window saying "Super strut suspension" but i never took ant notice because id never heard of it on the new celi's . On the upside i ordered a rake of parts today - tekniq auto snap off system, momo silverjet wheel, twm shortshifter and rear carbon liscense backing plate.

wow thats gotta be cool!! well i was half right. I gotta tell you though since you have such a rare suspension setup and LSD you should really leave your car stock suspension wise and just appreciate the car for what it really is.

i should tell you, the reason i say that is there is another member here named taemachine who can out-drive me in autoX by at least 10 sec. on stock suspension, you can check out mine in my profile, all he has is tires and thats it and no power mods. so it just goes to show that the driver is the best part you can put in a car.

If he is on race tires and you are on crappy street tires...trust me, that is more than enough. Now, don't get me wrong, I am SURE there is some skill involved. However, just to give an example... There is a guy that autocrosses here in Idaho and he is an INSANE driver. He took 2nd at US Nationals about 3-4 years ago in his SM2 RX-7 (Fastest damn thing I ever saw. I was working cones, and it was right next to me...and then it is gone!!!) Anyways, He now drives a bone stock 1.8t Golf. The only thing he has is race tires. Anyways, on the same day he decided to drive another guys heavily modded (Suspension, cams, etc...) Golf 1.8t. The only difference was that the Heavily modded golf didn't have race tires and the stock one did. Anyways, same driver and the Stock golf beat the modded golf on the same course by 6.5 seconds!!!! So, if that gives you an idea. On a side note, I was STS this last year and I was running on Falken 451's which everyone knows are not great for autoX. It was all I could afford at the time... Anyways, I beat a few Corvettes consistantly that were running RACE tires. It just shows, that the Celica is an awesome handler and with some driving skill you can beat much higher classed cars. Sorry for my novel.
