thinking about replacing my rear hatch window with plexiglass. does anyone know how i can get started? A lot of pro racers to help reduce the weight of the car
if you are going for wieght reduction, i believe that the vis Carbon Fiber trunk already comes with a plexi glass window. if you dont want to show the Carbon Fiber you could always get it painted...
I'd suggest doing some research on the different types of plastic available. Plexiglass is actually a brand name, as are Lucite, Lexan, etc. Each is made of different materials and has different properties. I believe Lexan is probably one of the best choices for an automotive window.
i agree until you get into the really high horspower numbers this will not help you vey much and the plexiglass will look like crap--not recomended but do what you like just dont think it will help anything noticicbly
You're an auto GT... this won't make you fast, this will just keep you from seeing anything out your back window.
nooo duh, the plexiglass won't make me fast. its just one of the things that's going help me achieve my goal of becoming fast. you act like thats the only mod im going to do. but i mean people spend all that money on intakes and exhaust and only get 20hp tops and they think they're fast. but then they put in their badass sound system and they can't move for shit. A huge ass dump truck probably has 3 times or more HP than me but the only reason why i could probably out run him is b/c all that weight he has. but whats the deal against thinking an auto can't out run a manual? i bet a supra TT auto stock can beat whatever you're pushing. an auto is not a stop sign its a bump on the road thats a challenge. you just gotta get more creative. And don't think high HP cars don't come in automatic. look at the twin turbo V12 mercedes SL65.
The celica is not comparible to something like the supra because the celica is a four cylinder with very little torque. What are your plans as far as mods go?
BETWEEN WHO YOU ARE AND WHO YOU COULD BE BETWEEN HOW IT IS AND HOW IT SHOULD BE
There is nothing wrong with wanting you car to go faster. Just understand that it would be a lot easier with a manual that it ever would be with an auto.
Plexiglass suck they break so easy or crack... and yeah they do fade over time and constant hot temperature. Also you can't put weight on those, so especially winter season where snow pours a lot and you have no garage, it is the worst mod you can ever imagine and waste of time and money.
I was trying to be friendly with my first post and suggest that you spend that money on other mods before you go to such lengths for weight reduction... but your absurd reply requires me to be a bit more blunt.
You hardly have any mods. If your goal is to be "fast" with an auto GT, you're going to need serious power mods. I don't care if you strip the car to an engine, chasis, seat and wheel... it'll still be slow. All the fast autos you listed 1) have more than 4 speeds & 2) have more than around 100lbs or torque.
People are always saying that autos can be just as fast, just look at the supra/AMG/whatever... the tranny in those cars is NOTHING like ours.
Basically, knock yourself out with the mods. You can make the car faster than it is now... but it'll never run below high 16's to low 17's in the quarter unless you go F/I. Even then you're looking at what, high 15's?
There are just sooo many more productive and less ricey mods for the money.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you

I wasn't comparing my car to a supra i was just saying that an auto with a High HP/torque motor can be as fast as a manual.

I get what you're sayin bro...and most stock auto trannies can handle more than a stock manual tranny in reality...but you said "high hp/torque motor" and well our car's just aren't that...even with a sweet turbo set-up...our motors won't ever have enough power for the auto's to be as fast as a manual...i mean unless you get a new tranny like the auto 7-speed in the new bmw m5. I'm not tryin to be a dick or anything...it's just how i see it. If you trade your auto in for a manual...you will already beat your auto by a second or more...and that would be the equivalent of slapping on a couple thousand dollars in mods on your auto. It's just smarter and more efficient to get a manual for a fast car...that's all...
^What he said. I have an auto and I can tell you the basic bolt ons will not do much. You will be dissapointed after a while. Unless you go forced induction, the auto celica is just not that great.

I'm not looking to make my car go super duper fast. And I'm not going after cars that can do 10s. I just wanna give people a run for their money and be able to smoke everyone in my class. I don't know what my class is but I'll figure that out.

Okay well then you will need to go forced induction so then you will be closing the gap between the auto and manual since you will have more power. I hope you do realize you will always be slower unless you buy a lot more things than the manual owners.

You could always autox and keep up with the manual boys with some basic bolt ons and suspension mods. Tronix on teamcelica beats the manual drivers so with a lot of practice that would be something a little more realistic. At the very least you will have a lot of fun doing it.

your best bet is to go with a thin lexan or flexlite for the window. you'll save a whoping 65 lbs if you do like I do and use a seperate hatch. I dunno the specs on VIS's C/F hood so I dunno what that'll do for ya. I can tell you that you're prolly wasting your tie at this point. get your car to the 250 - 300 whp area and THEN start thinkin about weight mods. the auto GT was just not meant to tear up the track.
i've beaten a 2002 corolla manual and wasn't far behind a celica 6spd gts. but then again i must adimit the dude in the corolla couldn't shift and the dude in the celica gts had a heavy sound system in his car and bad tires. but still, its not like im going after anything with force induction or more than 4 cylcs, or a rotary. I know my limits.

The guy in the GTS could not shift at all if you were even close to him.
In parkour, no one is afraid. One is just...apprehensive.
