No amount of words are sufficient to describe how a car handles in the snow. You just need to see for yourself and be very careful. Snow tires help.

I had my Celi last winter and let me say it sucked ass in the snow, this was the worst car I ever driven in snow, although I did have toyo proxes for tires. Anyways I highly recommend gettign snow tires. Drive slow and carefull and goodluck.

granted it's snow so be careful, but still better than a high-powered RWD Mustang in the snow.

i've never had any probs in snow. like any car you just have to have common sense. it IS better then rear wheel drive cars for sure. and winter tires are a MUST. they make a HUGE difference.

If you pump the brake real fast it gives effect somewhat similar to ABS. Some drivers actually think it is better because ABS is way too fast and "the car does not have enough time to get good grip"...I doubt it is really the case. Nevetheless, pumping the brakes works pretty well if you do it right, but you have to step over the mental barrier off having let go off brake pedal while you need to slow down.
And yeah driving slow and careful helps the most.

I live in Ma, I don't have snow tires (keep my yoko racings on year round) but I do have ABS so it may be a different experience. If you're careful you'll be fine, the hardest part is pulling out in a snowy intersection or starting from a stop tend to slide and spin, same with going up a hill. The ABS helps a lot if you feel you're sliding to much though.

you guys that said the Celi sucks in snow either have bald crappy tires or suck at DRIVING in snow. This is the third winter I've driven mine, and it does FANTASTIC. Where I live we get assloads of snow (half hour south of Erie, Pa). Last Monday we got 27" of snow, I drove home 25 miles, the last 8 miles on my road with a good 6-8" od unplowed snow and no tracks on it. I had no problem. You just got to have good tires, and take it easy. The only time I have trouble is if the snow is real deep, like if I haven't plowed the driveway in a few days. When driving home in the storm last Monday, I laughed my ass off as I cruised by a F-350 dualie that was buried in the ditch. Damn guy thinks his 4x4 is invincible, but my little Celica had no trouble.

well, grcelica, i see your car is auto. it's definately much easier to drive in the snow with an auto. i haven't had any problems yet, in fact it actually handles snow better than my last car ('02 VW Cabrio), although it had 13" wheels. if i expect a lot of snow while i'm at work, though, i take the cabrio.

^^^^I don't know, I have had many standards, and I always felt they were easier to drive in snow because of the ease in gear selection and the clutch, whereas I have had an auto "push" me down a hill because of it being in gear. I do kick off the OD button, and will also sometimes go into second when descending a snowy hill, but I feel much more comfortable going down hills in a standard as it is easier to pick a gear that will "hold you back". For winter I put on the old hubcap rims, but have GoodYear Eagle HT directional all season radials on it and they are really good in the snow too.

Living in Colorado, I'm sure I see more snow than 95% of you. In CO, you better have some damned good snow tires. Also, don't even think of revving hard, drive slowly and carefully. Celi's are too light, and I really don't like driving in snow. It can be done, becareful.

We got hit with about 8-10" last night. As of this morning, I can officially tell you that Toyo Proxes FZ4's are lousy in snow. I couldn't even get out of my subdivision without getting stuck. For one, the subdivision streets haven't been plowed yet, and they plowed the main street but left a big pile of snow at the entrance to the subdivision and in the middle of the street between the lanes. It took me two tries to get out of the subdivision, and then I couldn't get over the big pile of snow in the center (making a left turn), so I spent about 5 minutes rocking backward and forward in the middle of the road (while many other cars drive merrily past hardly giving me a glance) before I finally got back into the opposing lane where I could get some traction, and I drove the wrong way until I had enough momentum to get through the pile of snow in the center. Probably freaked out the car that was heading towards me before I managed to get into the right lane. First thing on the agenda tomorrow is getting the Blizzaks out of the attic.

as long as you take your time and don't try anythin stupid you'll be fine
stadered is only good for starting from stop casue you can start in second with less tq once your moving if you try and downshift your tires may jump and break free unless you have perfect shifting
i had a jetta vr6 with a lot more tq then the celica and i got around pretty well with bald tires in the snow
hey thats a 20 minute phone call "if i have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" derek: do you know that non dairy cream is flamable Jennie: ...derek..what did you do

it does well in snow I'd say, but the factory tires are absolute shit - I'm in Canada, we have about 4-6 months of snow a year, and of all the cars I've had , a celica with snow tires is the best so far.. I just drove a AWD element today, its not that much different... one thing, get an optima battery, your car will never freeze up with one of those... although, there was this one day a few years ago when it was -64 (-72 windchill) I don't know how it'd do then...I need to move...
