So yesterday I went to court for my careless driving ticket related to my car accident. My scheduled time was set for 8:40 in the morning, about 2.5 hrs away from my home. I set off at 5AM. Drove all the way up to Hot Sulpher Springs. Talked to the DA, he said that it had been agreed that I would go from a Class I Misdemeanor(up to $1000 fine or yr of jail time) to a Class II Misdemeanor($10-$300 fine or 3months jail time). I was nervous approaching the stand, who's not? Anyways, I got no jail time, but a $50 fine slapped on me. In addition to the roughly $80 additional fines, it came to $130. The worst part was the FOUR points assesed to my license. Ouch, very ouch.

The fine was extremely lenient. I told her that I was a student..yadda yada yada. It could haev been way worse if it were in court in Denver, those fuckers are poor.
As for my insurance, since I'm on a plan with the parents, I do have a high rate, but we're goign to continue to pay for it. Reason behind taht is because if I were to get dropped, I might not be able to pick up insurnace.
BTW, I have TWO points left on my license.

Well, it's the minimum sentence you can get for Careless driving. When's the nexet time they wipe the slate clean? 21?

BTW, I have TWO points left on my license. You did OK, probably the best you could have. I know you'll watch it and be careful. Happy to hear its behind you. I think its on your record for 3 years, but you get your points back after just one (well, that's how it works in AZ, anyway).

Hmmm...so you're saying in one year from yesterday, these four points will be history? I have a feeling if it works in AZ, CO would have something similar. So insurance will kick my ass for three yrs, but i'll revert to fewer points in one year...I should read into this.

Speaking as a guy that's had more than a dozen speeding tickets in his life...the points should be on for 3 years. If they put you on probation, it'll just be 1-2 years. I got off probabation last year. Cool thing was that I was doing a 6 month deployment for a good part of the time. And depending on the ins company, they go back 3-5 years. Now, the trick is to not tell them about it. I'm with StateFarm. They haven't checked my driving record since I joined with them 7+ years ago. They can't afford to check EVERYONE'S record each year. That's $20 per person. That would be millions of dollars. I think they run peoples' that get DUIs, and catch the other tickets that way.
