I love my celica, and im sure I will love it even more once this turbo is done. But Ive always wanted a 93/94 mazda RX-7TT. And if the oppertunity arose, I would trade my celica for one if it was in decent shape.
Anybody know anyone with a RX-7 that they are trying to get rid of? And if you were me and had a turbo'd celica would you want to trade it for another car?
Well, i live in Al for 8 months and KY for 4 and neither one of those states have emisions testing, I think their only enforced standard is having a dual chambered resonator in your exhaust system, unless your a good ole boy with a Chevy truck or mustang in which case you can have strait pipes with no problems from the police
And Zen motorsports (shop doing my turbo) has a lot of experience with RX-7s, so I would trust them with one, I would probubly get a street ported motor and set it up to run on a single turbo or non sequential twin turbo
i know people refer to RX-7's as FC. anyone care to tell me what it stands for??
FC = 2nd generation rx-7 FD = 3rd generation rx-7
FC's did not come with TT
All FD's come with TT.
FD is a great car but is high matianence. Early FD's have some minor problems. FD's motor doesnt last too long. It needs to be replaced around 80k-100k miles and even earlier if boosted with a single turbo.
Advantages are it has supurb handling and quick turbo spool. Turbo's spool 3 times faster than other cars such as supras.
WERD! RX-7 (FD) are not the most reliable cars around. their stock temp gauges are extremely inaccurate, the early models have a radiator that is way to small and their apex seals heat up and crack. If you have the money to restore one from the inside out then do it. they're nice cars that can tear up the track but be ready for some headaches and to spend some serious $$$.
Why would you trade your celica for an RX-7?...Come on dude your going to have a lot of engine prob's just do the math dude you'll see what i'm getting at!...Alway's stay CELICA!
if the rx7 is just a weekend car and not your daily driver i say go for it. there fun cars and hella fast. now if your rx7 will be your daily driver... just walk away from it.

WTF?? are you talking about both FC and FD RX-7 had a turbo version. And not all FD's are turbo. It is the SA22 that did not come with a turbo.
i was gonna buy one until i learned of their problems and that you gotta have a lot of money to upkeep one-at my local track there was one racing and it was having so many problems i dont think it even won one of the races it was in-civics were beating it bad
if your gonna go for a cheap/fast sports car, consider a 300xz. You can find one for like 10-11g's. It wont break down on you and is an excellent car. Get some sport500's and necessities, and you'll be pumpin 450-500rwhp.
well dude, My friend told me there was a reason for Mazda to stop making the RX-7. well, there where two reasons, it was
1. Very Expensive 2. Overheating Problems
Mazda fully reconstructed the the RX-8 engine so it would not overheat. That is just what I know, you might want to ask an RX-7 owner before you really consider buying one.
I dunno, my dream car was an RX-7 FD for the longest time until I heard about the problems the the engine had. Its true that last a long time but half the time, your gonna be pushing the engine (@ least thats what I would do . . . gotta love the rotary sound. )
My suggestion to you would get a RX-8 and get it modified because they can be very promising. @ least you wont have to deal with engine failure.
Much Luck on your search.
The dream of someday racing in the JGTC... drive sideways. -'nough said.
All I have to say is my brother had a Silver 94 non turbo Rx-7 and when he was rebuilding it started on fire and he collected 5x what he paid for it because they couldnt find one that was around its what its worth. So what he does right after he loses that one he buys a 94 black 7 with over 400 wph and a single turbo. All i have to say about that car is its the sweetest car ive ever been in. I dont know the size of the turbo for sure but when i saw it i almost pissed my pants the turbo was huge. After having it running good for about 6 months it breaks down. Because Rx-7's are known for having overheating problems. They run super hot. Then he had to get rid of the turbo cause it was causing him ideling problems. So now i think he is trying to get rid of it. It works fine now. It has all new rims and tires. It has a sweet sound system. Racing seat basically the car is show car material and racing material. Its has super dark tinted windows with nice chrome rims. He wants to get rid of it and maybe get a lexus is300 or something like that. But ill let you know for sure if hes going to sell it.
By the way my brother spent more time working on it then driving it. There really hard to take care of.
Another thing is people will wont to race you every to feet. Just drivin in my small town for about 10 minutes with my brother a supra a peice of shit oldsmobile and a bunch of other cars tried to race us. But my brother couldn't even go 100% on it cause he had just finished fixing the car.
But it is the coolest car ive ever seen.
"I hit him with the buttons and shit too , his hat went flying up in the air , and the feather was floating in the air from side to side , like Super Mario 3 " Quote from bigwOrm
I am previous owner of the FC. I had a Turbo II. I blew the engine twice and fried 2 turbos, but that's because I raced it often. It was very expensive a car for me. But from hanging around FD owners, I learned a cold hard fact, that these cars are very high maintenance. They are prone to problems, and it will take a heavy wallet to own and drive one on a daily basis. Don't forget that your going to be owning a car that's 10-8 years old already. Just bone stock FDs have problems with vacuum lines blowing off, turbos frying and transmission issues. They can be money pits, so be real careful about this considering of yours.
