Does anyone have a picture of a backup camera install on a Celica? I'm getting a rear-view camera for my AVIC-N1 today and I'm wondering how I should install it..Thanks.

They sell cameras specifically designed for the replacement of the key hole. I will be doing it once it gets nice out. I have the screen and camera, just dont want to go out in the cold.

I just bought one that has night vision. I plan on putting it where my keyhole is on the rear hatch. I'll post pics when its done.

Here is where I bought it.

^^ Bet you won't say that when you run over a poor kid on a power wheel because you turned your head and didn't see anything before you backed up.

ya we had one on our suburban, mounted just left of the recievier, it helped when towing our trailers, i mean i still had to look in the mirrors and turn my head to get the truck straight, but this way i could know how close i was to the trailer, and that the trailer was still there when we were hauling. it was also water proof so when we launched our boat, we could see under the water...

too bad they dont have audio though, i wouldnt have to yell directions to the front/driver about moves and actions he/she should do

The keyhole idea seems really cool and I think it looks clean, but how do I take apart that piece that has the CELICA letters engraved into it? I also like how roxyracer (with the red celica) mounted her's where the right license plate light is. I don't know how to remove that either...so if someone could tell me how to remove that whole piece I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everyone.

well just pull back/off the plastic cover from the inside of the hatch, and you can see everything in there, the lock mechanism and all,

or for the light wayyou can use a heat gun to melt/loosen up the glue to the plastic light cover, and remove that that way, you will also need to push away the clips (you will see when your in there)

if it can prevent accidents even when turning your head and checking the mirrors, its worth it. please, laziness doesnt have anything to do with this thumbsdown

if your going to defend your case, atleast make it reasonable. I just think its poinltess for our cars. I can understand an 18 wheeler or something along those lines.

^^ How is that unreasonable??? Point I was making is it is not just for show or laziness. If a small child that is shorter than what you can see by turning your head is behind your car and you have a backup cam and you see him on there, you just saved his/her life and yourself vehicular manslaughter.

Is that a reasonable enough defense for ya??!!
Not that I had to explain it but I guess you just didn't get it. rolleyes

The problem is, with my previous car, a smaller sedan. I could easily see out my rear window, with the celica, the rear window is pointed upwards like I'm looking at the sky, because of the design of the car, I can not see anything directly behind my rear bumper. I have almost ran over things because of it. It's definitely not laziness.

I have watched many people back out of a parking spot while turning, and only using their rear camera. They have zero awareness of whats on either side of them as they swing their vehicle backwards and look forward to the screen on the dashboard. They are unaware of anything outside of the view of their single camera, and its view angle thumbsdown

I've also have witness many people backing up while not paying attention to the person getting in to the car parked right next to them because they are lazy to turn their neck and look.

A backup camera is a tool, but it should never be the only tool used.

"Check Surroundings Before Proceeding"

The keyhole installation is definitely better than no installation.
Personally, I installed a 180 degree wide angle license plate over the fish-eyed keyhole.
Wiring does take time, but patience for safety is a good trade.

Remember, safety does not happen by accident!

This person may have been using the backup camera for the entire reversing procedure. The accident zone happened just beyond of main viewing zone (or at the edge) of the white SUV's backup camera, rather than directly behind them.

The accident could likely have been avoided if SUV driver turned their head and looked at their surroundings before reversing.

edit: or it could just be a blatant insurance scam mad I hope the red car didn't get blamed for rear ending him.
I have one of these mounted in my dash - https://amzn.to/37bnERq
